I just joined Taxi and I've been out of the music scene for a while and would like to try my hand at writing Pop/Top 40 songs again. I know sounding current is vital.

What are some current keyboard patches that are being used in top 40 songs? I have kotakt 4 and several other good baked- in synths that come with Sonar. I'll try to listen to some of those tunes and see if I can figure out if I've already got something in my arsenal, but hoped someone here can point me in the right direction because that's not the style of music I listen to personally.

I think I'm posting this in the correct section, but please let me know if there is a better one.
Okay please don't take this the wrong way :) ...but if you want to "try your hand at writing Pop/Top 40 songs", but "that's not the style of music you listen to"...then I think finding the proper synth sounds is the least of your worries. :D
You're gonna have to listen to a TON of current top 40 songs to get a handle of what makes them work, and in the process you'll hear what type of synth sounds are popular in the genre...and chances are you already have some of those sounds in your arsenal.

That said I would agree you can't go wrong with Massive, and I find its CPU consumption to be very reasonable by today's standards.

I think that is totally right--thanks. I tried to be brief and remain on topic, but I used to write Pop and have been immersing myself in classes, books and yes, listening to top 40. The 'technology' is vital and my current sounds are more Rock based. I messed with the Massive demo and instantly heard contemporary sounds just with the pre-sets. I'll say I like a lot of the melodies of today's top 40 and very impressed with their production. It is top of class.

Yup! Thanks all for recommending Massive and for especially letting me know about the sale. I just got the key and can hardly wait to get to using it! I already have a tune it will fit perfect in.
