Odds are pretty good that what I'm hearing has more to do with your monitor situation than anything else; it can be very hard to isolate these kinds of problems, but I'd suggest starting there.

Even with a bad room/monitor situation, you can often mitigate it by comparing your mix/vocal sound with that of a recording you know well, run through the same system. If you have a recording of a singer with a similar voice, try importing it into your DAW so you can compare it with your signal chain using the same monitors. In most cases, it'll be louder, because commercial recordings have been through the mastering process, but you should still be able to get an idea of where you're at, and where you need to be. Did I mention that this song has very good to great potential? I believe it's worth some more effort, so keep after it; you could have a winner on your hands. Good luck!

Brandon
I enjoyed this song... I can't help on the mix- not my area. The vocal does sound a little back to me...

It could be a good tween pop tune. I'm wondering if you should check out some female tween artists (Miley, etc) and think about producing it in that direction. There are often calls for that type of song in film/TV.

Good luck!
:) Casey

Yep, and there's 'universal lyric appeal', too. ;)

Casey and Mojo,

That's a great idea! Any suggestions production wise to kind of get it more "pop"?

Thanks guys!

NEW LISTING -- TEEN POP SONGS a la Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez's "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" needed by a multi-platinum album Producer working with a young female artist. Songs must have memorable hooks and strong commercial appeal. Lyrics need to have a positive message. All tempos are accepted. Female vocals only please. Vocal and instrumental demo presentation must be top-notch! We recently ran this as Dispatch listing #D100615PO, so if you submitted to that listing, please send in new songs this time around. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Friday, August 13, 2010.
TAXI # S100813PO

Do you guys think if I change it up a little bit, it could make this listing?

Thanks,

Brandon

You have to sample the artists mentioned in the listing and emulate the production style of one. Also check out the typical lyrical style. The reference artists are the key to the listings.

Good luck!

Alright guys! I have an updated mix. Think the vocals sit more in the pocket, added some delay and re-EQ'd.

Do you think this song should have harmonies? I need suggestions please :-)

When I have time, I think I will try and go back and make this a selena gomez hit :)

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. Please keep them coming!

Brandon
