Here's a suggestion - write a song ABOUT having writer's block, and how that makes you feel. If you want to be able to pitch the song, keep the lyrics general enough for it to apply to other situations.I did this a few years ago, and ended up with something I never would have otherwise written. http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true

Wow, I'm so glad I read this thread. I experienced the same thing when I got back from the Rally and couldn’t explain why. I rarely get writer's block, and if I do, it's usually for only a day or so. I came back from LA with a newly defined focus, lots of connections, tons of inspiration.... but for one reason or another, nothing was coming out when I sat down to write and record. I usually have no problem coming up with ideas and while many of them end there and aren’t built into fully-realized songs, it’s always at least a jumping off point.I’m never content with just doing nothing, so I didn’t use my writer’s block as an excuse to sit back. Instead, I re-focused my post-Rally energy into shaping up some things on the business side of my songwriting, and now a little over a week after experiencing the block, I’m over it. Lyrics, melodies, and even a few production ideas have all started flowing again. I guess after the positive yet over-stimulating experience of the Rally, I just needed some time to let it all soak in.I like everyone's suggestions and while I don't think mine would necessarily work for everyone, I thought I'd throw it into the hat for anyone that it might help: Re-focus your energy into another facet of your songwriting until you feel the spark hit you, then run with it when it returns. I've had some ideas pop into my head today that I'm really excited about -- and glad that I waited patiently for while getting some other "have-to's" done.Don Kline // 8 Box Music

I went out and did some work on our property before the cold weather hits us. That seemed to work - I ride my tractor around and cut the grass down, move some dirt (we always have dirt work going on around here from a long standing landscaping project) and came in ready to drink something warm and write. I have to admit I'm glad to see this happens to others, and that some of the boys need a little validating too. There's nothing like a deadline to jump start creativity (or craftsmanship via gun to the head!).That being said, I think part of writer's block comes from putting creativity on some kind of pedestal instead of seeing it as normal as breathing. After all, we're creating our lives second by second anyway, everything we do is an ongoing improvisation, even deciding to get on the tractor and mow the lawn. Writing something every day, even if it's 2 bars, two words or two pages is the best thing I've found to keep things going. This way, it becomes normal and not some mystical thing that relies upon the confluence of the stars and planets and the whims of some muse. Not everything is going to be brilliant but flashes of brilliance aren't what it's about anyway. it's brilliance built up over time, note by note, brick by brick that's the real stuff!I don't mean to trivialize the miracle of creation at all but to try to put it in to perspective that fits every day life. (Also, TAXI listings and production deadlines do help speed things up a bit, particularly for a procrastinator like me!)You're not alone in this Anne!Mazz

Hey, honey.Even though I was unable to take his advice during a nearly 6-year writers' block...During a live TV interview, Kenny Loggins was asked how he deals with writers' block, and his answer was pretty simple."Write something anyway. Anything. Just write something.
