ASIO soundcard driver problem
Hi all, well good news: I've upgraded my PC to 64 bit, 4 times as much RAM, about 50 times as much memory and 14 inches more on the screen size. Now if I could just get it working...I'm on my 4th go at getting the software installed correctly. Just not happening right. Meanwhile, I thought you might be able to help with this little problem. When I start up Cubase (essential 4) I get this message "The currently installed soundcard driver does not support Direct Sound Input. Recording audio is not possible". Not exactly what I want to read after a big investment like this. But I think it might just be a small fixable problem? My audio card is NI's Audio Kontrol 1, and I have updated to the latest driver from their website. Cubase essential 4 and Audio Kontrol 1 work fine on my 32-bit laptop. Any ideas anyone? Thanks for any help.... Georgie

Re: ASIO soundcard driver problem
I'm the farthest from being an expert Georgie...but when I put together my studio PC, it was originally off the shelf, with it's own soundcard and drivers loaded.I remember having to disable the old soundcard driver before switching over to ASIO. It was in one of the "devices/settings" areas, but I'm away from the studio and I can't remember.Have a look for that issue, and hopefully someone else will stop by with another solution for you soon!

I suspect you're gonna have to either upgrade to a fuller version of Cubase or upgrade your soundcard/interface. Can't say for sure, not a Cubase user (I have an old LE version I never use) and haven't taken the 64 bit plunge yet. It sounds to me like Cubase is pointed at the wrong driver, though. You want ASIO not DirectSound, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: ASIO soundcard driver problem
Update: I have got it working! Maybe it's operating on 32-bit. But I'm just thrilled to bits that I've worked everything out - found my missing instruments and got the sound working. I can finally load and play my Steinway within EWQL gold orchestral - wow it's a nice sounding piano compared to the rubbish I've been using so far. (There wasn't enough memory on my old computer to load the Steinway)Now I just need to locate all the Halion instruments that come with Cubase (they don't appear as a plugin and I can't locate the .dll file anywhere) and load in Gypsy and then I should be back in business. I haven't written any music this week because of this new computer lark. Hm...Ok guys, here we go....Georgie
