Anyone have experience with this UAD-1 plug?I'm running a single card on a dual core PC with Windoze on it...anyone else try this one?

I've used it a few times. I think it's a bit long in the tooth as far as these modeled amp/effects things go but I've gotten good results out of it depending on the tune.I don't think the high end sounds very realistic but it's got pretty good low end and "balls". A little bit goes a long way, IMO.I do love my UAD-1 card, though!! HTH<Mazz

It's better than nothing, but it's nowhere near the quality of Guitar Rig or Amplitube for realistic guitar sounds. It's still fine for other kinds of "messing up" of sounds though... but I tend to reserve my UAD-1 resources for the various plugins I've come to rely upon for mixing.

Thanks gents...I invested an hour touring around that plug last night, and I'd certainly agree with your experience. It can run several LA2A's & Cambridge EQ's for the same horsepower, as an example...

The Fairchild and the Plate-140 have permanent homes in my mixes. BTW: I don't think they're porting Nigel over to the UAD-2, at least that's how I interpreted their literature.Have fun!!Mazz

Thanks Mazz...I was just wondering what 'verb folks turned to...I guess that answers that question! I remember you also were a fan of the LA-2A, but it looks like the Fairchild gets a bit more love? I haven't had as much a limitation with the LA-2A as I have with their standard reverb, so I think upgrading my reverb would take priority, seeing as I have (weak) vocals getting tracked too.Of course, I could just cruise evil-bay again and pick up a fully loaded card to add to my system....ah, sweet gear fetish! Are you running one card right now? I haven't had an issue yet going solo...but I haven't had many forwards either Thanks again!

if you're looking for a cool guitar amp-simulator you may give line6 POD FARM a try. you can buy a toneport gx for maybe 60 $ and play over that, you don't have any noticeable latency issues.it has some cool sounds, some fx are really cool & usefull.to answer your question: nigel is better than nothing, but I never used it for recording guitar. I remember I used it several times for messing up other signals.hthmartin
