The two fellows sitting behind me were having an annoyingly distracting conversation (and commenting on #$%ing everything) continually for the first 90 minutes. I was getting angry, and I kept thinking of smart-ass things to shut ‘em up. “Hey I’m glad you two are in touch with your femine sides …” - or - “About the chit-chat, guys, I don’t mind the chat, but could you knock that chit off?” etc. Seven years ago, I edited the book "You Can't Make Me Angry".. and learned a LOT in the process. So, I finally I came up with a solution: At the break I turned to them and said, “Fellows, you both know that I’m a musician, right? Well, one part of playing in an ensemble is that is that I have to tune in to all the parts the others are playing. So for me – there is no such thing as background noise. I know it’s MY problem, but it would be much easier for me to hear the speaker without having to filter out other conversations.” It worked. Thanks Stan.I showed that post to my Firebox, and it just hissed itself!
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Re: Background noise!
Dave, is your metronome noise simply leaking through your headphones and into the recording mic?As far as that Yamaha GO46 vs the Presonus Firebox, I really can't tell any difference for sure. But both units required a good preamp for my Shure SM58 mic. I can plug in directly when using my Strat or my Rickenbacker bass. (That Yamaha unit can no longer be found...discontinued and sold out.)Does your noise come only when you use a mic? Or does it come with electric guitars too? If it's just mic, are you sure you're not just picking up all the ambient room noise? The hum of your computer, a distant refrigerator, etc?

I never noticed that on any of my previous projects.Don't know where it came from, but it would obviously be feeding all the tracks; hence the problem - hopefully! Will look at it properly tomorrow.Quote:Does your noise come only when you use a mic? I get it even with just the lead plugged in, and without the instrument connected.I'm starting to think it could be a fault with the Firebox, as I think everything has been ruled out now.The only thing I can say, is that it didn't do it before.Thanks,Dave.

Re: Background noise!
DaveI'm really clutching at straws here Are you getting the problem with both pre-amps? Is there any chance you've somehow enabled a compressor on the Firebox channel strip(s) after the Send (you hear it but the DAW doesn't get it)?Best I can do... sorry, mate!

Could be worse, a guy on the TapeOp forum says his PreSonus hiss is as loud as the program material and is getting recorded.
