I mean I know some speakers if you turn them up fully, they pump out a slight hiss sound? just a thought....No, it's not daft Brad, but the sound also comes through the headphones!

It's not the power fellas! In Sonar, as playback hits each separate track, the noise increases.Even though it's not recording, it's annoying when trying to mix.I don't get it!!

Quote:Just so we all understand the characteristics of the noise, is it hiss, hum, low frequency buzz, or a high frequency buzz (which can be generated by some computer/laptop power supplies (I have a problem with this and have to always record and mix with the laptop on battery power.Wow! Brad. Thanks. I think i got all that. It's more a kind of hiss. What you would expect if you turn the volume too high, but it's happening at lower volumes. Through speakers and headphones.Cheers,Dave.

Dave,I've hit the nail on the head - you have a poltergeist.... but in seriousness, I will be laughing my head off if getting a higher signal in achieves success - because I think my first few posts said "get a decent signal going in"... but alas... I'm South African, what do I know..? hahahahaMan I'm full of it today....

The two fellows sitting behind me were having an annoyingly distracting conversation (and commenting on #$%ing everything) continually for the first 90 minutes. I was getting angry, and I kept thinking of smart-ass things to shut ‘em up. “Hey I’m glad you two are in touch with your femine sides …” - or - “About the chit-chat, guys, I don’t mind the chat, but could you knock that chit off?” etc. Seven years ago, I edited the book "You Can't Make Me Angry".. and learned a LOT in the process. So, I finally I came up with a solution: At the break I turned to them and said, “Fellows, you both know that I’m a musician, right? Well, one part of playing in an ensemble is that is that I have to tune in to all the parts the others are playing. So for me – there is no such thing as background noise. I know it’s MY problem, but it would be much easier for me to hear the speaker without having to filter out other conversations.” It worked. Thanks Stan.I showed that post to my Firebox, and it just hissed itself!

DaveI'm really clutching at straws here Are you getting the problem with both pre-amps? Is there any chance you've somehow enabled a compressor on the Firebox channel strip(s) after the Send (you hear it but the DAW doesn't get it)?Best I can do... sorry, mate!
