Re: Omnisphere
I have a challenge to propose: Since we're all probably soon going to be hearing stock Omnisphere patches all over the the TV and in TAXI submissions and elsewhere, let's challenge ourselves to create our own original patches and tweaks. After all, the synthesizer is meant to be used to synthesize. Stock patches are great but the point of a synthesizer, IMO, is to create your own new instrument and sounds that reflect your own voice. It's going to be hard because the stock patches are going to be amazing but, if the editing capabilities are there, and I have no doubt that they are, there's no reason that one shouldn't, with a little elbow grease, be able to create their own awesome, original patches.Anyone up for it?Mazz

Re: Omnisphere
...personally I often combine a patch with my voice, and that makes everything very very unique indeed, yes indeed... not always good, but certainly not recognizable as the original article might be... just ordered Omnisphere now I have to go rob a bank...PS - yes, Mazz, I'm up for it. In fact, that's what I've learned with Stylus... you don't want the screener to go... "oh, another Stylus loop"

Don't ya hate it when their customer appreciation is such that they structure their prices in a way that makes their new stuff impossible to pass up?

Re: Omnisphere
I'm still chewing over mazz' earlier point about presets. It's easy to get excited about the latest whiz-bang technology, but I think a lot of folks'd be surprised how much mileage one can get from a thoroughly obsolete hardware rompler. I do love to program synths, but these days, I barely have time to audition presets. However, there are many generous souls giving away massive banks of sounds for "outdated" synths like my crusty, er, trusty Korg X5. One poor benighted soul apparently took the trouble to re-create all the sounds from a couple of Jean-Michel Jarre records on his X5, which has only a few megs of raw material to work with. One can get a pretty massive sound mixing and stacking samples from different sources as well. To me, this approach feels more creative than plunking down another $249 for the same presets everyone else will be using; I would feel a bit like a hamster on a wheel if I did that.

Re: Omnisphere
Given the amazing raw materials that Omnisphere gives the synthesist to work with, this hamster just bought himself a new wheel!I do agree, however, that most people (myself included) don't utilize near the potential out of their gear that's built in. It seems to be all about new and cool in the world of electronic music. What makes the piano still valid, even though it only makes one sound? Mazz
