BOSS OR TASCAM

Hi - just a general enquiry, out of interest.Out of the 2 multi track recorders that I am familiar with, I have a Boss BR 900 and will be thinking of upgrading soon, a friend of mine has a Tascam. Obviously he is bias over his and I am mine, how many of you prefer Tascam or Boss. With my Boss, I found my own dabbling and useful hints from Arkjack helped me understand it and dig deeper than the actual manual, my friend said his Tascam has a start to finish guide that tells you exactly what to do from the initial recording to the final result (master). My Boss manual however does not, it does tell you everything but not in the logical order lol.Just interested to know other views and which people tend to prefer to use, and find easier to use. Unfortunately I am not very technical as I am not a sound engineer but am keen to learn more in the depths of recording etc.

A few years ago, I would have been way more comfortable with a modular digital multitrack, but my decision to buy a computer-based DAW appears sounder by the day. Computer-based solutions are just far more flexible, and cost-effective. Reliability is still a concern, for live musicians, but the Muse Receptor is beginning to change even that.

Hey daffsongwriter!I'd be willin' ta bet that they're probably not that much different from each other. I've got a Tascam 2488 (original model), and I've found it to be very usable, no doubt, but if I had a BOSS, I'd probably get pretty much the same results out of it, as I do my Tascam. I also have a Korg D16 (which I was using prior to purchasing the Tascam), and I didn't find a great deal of difference between the 2 as I made the transition. The Tascam had some features that the D16 didn't have, and vice versa. Either way, I get just about the same results. I also work with the computer & the DAW. So I tend ta' go back n' forth between computer stuff and the digital standalone stuff. I capture most of my live instrumentation using the TASCAM 2488, and use the computer for my virtual instruments. And on occassion, I mix the two together. What ever it takes ta' get the job done.
