I'm an old hippie with a decent day job and I'm investing heavily in my gear for the day when I jump ship at the salt mine and become a full-time composer. I figure my day gig is funding my start-up costs for my dream gig.I know I'll have to make a leap of faith at some point to go full time and I want to be geared up for it. I am fully aware that gear does not a composer make and I also make educated decisions on what to get with an eye to the future. I also know that the gear thing is a black hole that is easy to get sucked in to.Your humble gear-head friend,Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

it's not the gear, it's the ear!

Our local Digital guru spends loads on summing mixers from Dangerous Audio, but I'm not entirely sold on the idea of outside the box mixing for inside the box projects. (makes sense in his case, he has an old Neve board and mixes analog) Quality converters at either end and a solid clock should be enough to make a DAW all it can be, sonically. Not that I never add outboard processing, I've just never heard anything bad that could be attributed to my DAW's summing bus rather than operator error. You don't really need a $5k hardware box to produce third-order harmonic distortion.

That gave the APPEARANCE that I was investing in the little things (like house, kids, marriage, etc)...and gave me a nicer place to sleep after I tried to explaine the AutoTune5 and iLok package that arrived in the mail this week.

There's a heretic in our midst, quick, catch him before he gets away, he must learn the TRUTH!!!
