I'm happy to announce that you have an affliction, an affliction that most people are happy to catch. It's called "your composing skills are outpacing the quality of your music samples and instruments".It seems like I really love spending money (especially when it's yours ) but I'm really a thrifty "spend on an 'as needed' basis" kind of guy. If you're going to do this and you're going to be sending music to the same people that Mazz, Matto, Crs7String, et al are sending THEIR music to, you need a bit of updating with your sounds. I'm not a paid spokesmodel (although I get mistaken for one all the time ) but I'm a big fan of EWQL (www.soundsonline.com) particularly their "Gold" orchestral package. So that's around $600 BUT... as the centerpiece and foundation to build on... that's a VERY good way to go. I'm hearing your music as being very much like mine and the other guys I mentioned. "Orchestrally centered" but you venture out to ethnic and some other things as well. So for hundreds of dollars (as opposed to thousands or tens of thousands) you can have a great building platform and true broadcast quality. BrindaBella transformed her already wonderful music simply by buying a quality virtual piano for a couple hundred dollars, something that matched her composing skills. Oh... then she got a deal. There is a limit to how far your current set of sounds can take you and I think your composition skills and musical ideas have already gone beyond those limits.(Eric, yelling to his wife) "HON-EYYYYYY! Dave says I need all new stuff... gonna run at least $20,000 but there's no other choice!" Forum members love me, spouses hate me. A couple hundred bucks to get you started up the right path is well worth it if your going to be doing it. Dave

Dave,Thanks for the kind words & a good laugh. Not to worry. The "ex-wife" is off tormenting someone else. My studio expenditures require no approvals other than my own The Whale Song was done with Colossus & Atmosphere. I've since added a bunch of other sample libraries. I went with the VSL Horizon Series for orchestral samples. The Kontakt Player came with even more samples. I've heard great things produced with the EWQL Gold as well.I did notice a big difference between a Bach Sarbande I arranged (using Colossus strings) & a piece I wrote called Melancholy 1 (using VSL). I had a terrible time getting the Colossus strings to sound as good as the VSL. Not to knock Colossus. It has a very useful & broad range of samples. I'm curious about Goliath as well.My sound quality has improved in increments. Working on my mixing skills helped. Trying to target upgrades that really improve my sound helped. The Manley Vari-Mu arrived a few months ago. It was expensive but has proven to be wonderful for the smoothness & clarity I want. Little by little the sound gets better.If anyone has any suggestions for sample libraries, I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you use.I went to the Taxi "Broadcast Quality" link.
