MAGIX Music Maker 2008

Post by linziellen » Mon Aug 11, 2008 9:48 pm

Hi guys, with the summer holidays I haven't managed to make a lot of music or join in the discussions here but I'm still lurking, and writing lyrics, as always! Anyway, I now have some new software (as above) so I can get relatively serious with recording - but boy do I have a lot to learn. Just wondered if anyone has any experience with this program and what you honestly think about it?Hopefully I will catch up with folks soon Linzi

Hi Christi,Thanks for the message, here's a link if you're interested. I'm using Windows VistaI came to the conclusion that while this program is cool for making decent music - quickly, I'm not sure it has what it takes to make original tracks time and time again. Having said that, there seems to be so much for me to discover (so I best not speak too soon). I do think it was a good investment - if only to get a foot through the door and into the world of recording! http://www.itreviews.co.uk/software/s566.htmLinzi

Hey Linzi!Had some experience with Magix a while back. A producer buddy of mine wanted me to learn it, as it was similar to Logic at the time. It had your basic audio & midi features, same as any other DAW. Wasn't the easiest thing ta' learn, but I managed ta' get it ta' work for me. It was all short-lived though, 'cause I really didn't feel like tryin' ta' learn it, even though I could've.This newer version comes with virtual instruments!! Wow! I would think that's what you'd want. At least you have something ta' work with right out of the box. So that's cool. I will say, what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it. All I can say is make sure you read & comprehend all directions to the fullest. Try and have an extended period of time to test the thing out before you get serious. Get to know how every aspect of the software works (trial & error). It makes getting serious alot easier if you know the flow of the program. But most importantly, give yourself & the software a fair chance. If you really want ta' know how it works & how it can work for you, then you'll know. Bottom line! With all of the new features, I believe this program could work out for you and at least give you a more solid foundation for some creativity. But ya' gotta' be willing ta' put in the work. There's no substitute for diggin' in there and gettin' your hands & feet dirty, and gaining the knowledge of how to work the thing yourself. It'll make you more proficient in the end. Just my $.02. Take it for what it's worth! I-468

I've got some experience with it-man that takes me back. I used to hook my playstation up to the cpu so I could transfer my music generator files! lololmaolololmao! i'd say if you're new to DAWs then it will give you a visual stepping stone to the basics. don't get me wrong, I haven't touched it in about 4yrs so im not sure what's been added but it helped me get used to looking at step sequencers and playing with eq's. all I had was the cpu keyboard and mouse, by the time I got a midi controller I was using FL studio 5 and cubase. i'll check the link but if you need any help feel free to contactme directly and i'll help you out-im no pro but I know how confusing it can be to learn things on your own.that was the best $10 I spent at best buy. man that takes me back-lol! my mp3s were clipping, muffled and overall trash but you couldn't tell me I wasn't makin music!best of luckblunt
impossible is what I've already done because I was told I couldn't, so please find another way to motivate me...

Hi guys, just wanted to say a quick thank you for your replies (much appreciated). I tried to post a couple of days ago but for some strange reason the screen kept blocking.I'm still fiddling with MAGIX, and I don't intend on giving in easily, might take me a long time though! Cheers,Linzi

Hey there B "Exactly" that's a big word, almost offensive from where I'm sitting I do think about it though...I like the idea of me, the quirky piano and a little crackle over the airwaves. Also I want to keep in with the pop/jazz, you know big beat and "get up and dance" feel. As far as fame goes, I'm pretty torn. I just want to make music (that includes all aspects from scratch to performing), but I love the security of my little life and beautiful family. It's a tough one, when I think about it for too long my head hurts and I remind myself of what's really important (to me). Then I also kick myself for even thinking I might have what it takes.I'm going round in circles.Sorry Brad, can you repeat the question...(Nice to see you)

hahahaha I didn't mean it as an insult or anything, was just trying to see if the Magix program did what you need it to ... bad phrasing on my part really.... P.s. if it's almost offensive from where you're sitting - does that mean French people are easily offended I think you got a unique voice (in a good way), so it is worth bashing a demo together and seeing where it takes you.I seriously love Big Band Jazz, I always listen to 50's jazz and think "man, I wish I was there" it just sounds like such a magical time...

Ohhh no I didn't take it as anything more than a perfectly reasonable question OK, honestly I have been messing about making little tunes with Magix, from techno to chillout, it's pretty cool. But as far as using my own music (fresh from the piano) I can't see how I can do anything to liven it up. Probably because I haven't tried yet but I can imagine it with a big beat, maybe even remixed a little.I just need to put some time and effort into it, to make it happen. I'm sure I'll get there eventually...The French are OK but I'm lucky to have my sister here, I can talk to her like she talks to me and neither of us get offended easily hehehe. I bet you're getting used to the British sense of humour by now Linzi
