Universal Audio SOLO/610
Hey Guys,I've been researching this little pre, and I've read some really good reviews about it - but then again I don't know if those reviews are legit etc....Wondering if everyone here has used it or knows if it's good or not.. Grown tired of the sound of my presonus firebox.... Take CareB

Re: Universal Audio SOLO/610
I would have no doubt that this thing sounds great. Is the 610 the tube or the solid state model? Of course, most everyone likes the "sound" of tubes (what they really like is the sound that tubes make when they distort a little or a lot), but a well designed tube pre should give out what goes in, only louder, if that's what you want. With a tube, you get the option to dial in a little of that "magical......fuzz, warmth, whatever". A solid state pre, IMO, would be chosen to give a very clean, uncolored signal that would be then be "messed with" once in the box.The tube model "might" be more versatile.I'm enamored of their tube/solid state hybrid that can have them blended. I'd love to hear how that one sounds.IMO, you can't go wrong with UA, the founders are the sons of Bill Putnam, a legend in studio lore, and they have stayed true to their lineage.Cheers!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I don't think there's a better mic preamp you can buy for that kind of loot$, but the new 710 is the same price and offers more flexibility, (it's always nice to have options) and not long to wait; it's due Aug 10th in the states.New 710haven't tried this yet, but it looks sweet:Chandler 500more links on the Rode thread, btw...click

Hey,Thanks for the heads up, yeah was checking out the 710 - might be better to wait for that little puppy coz you blend Tube and Solid State... I've never used a Tube Pre before so will be great to hear the tonal difference! Thanks for the info!Take CareB
