Logic Pro help Please

Post by bmete » Fri Jul 18, 2008 11:16 am

Hi,I'm in Logic Pro- I have chosen Crystal Pad as a percussion accent-- I'm playing a rhythm on the e flat key two octaves below middle c-- the problem is after I play a rhythm- 3-4 seconds later I can hear it in the monitor & the recording , but it is in static form. Does anyone know what would be causing this..You help is appreciated!

Hi bmeteI have Logic Pro 7.0. Are you saying you have a full 3-4 second delay between when you hit the key and when the sound comes out of the monitors? Also , I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by "it is in static form". Is "Crystal Pad an EXS instrument? I've had some latency when I've opened a linear phase EQ, but a full 3-4 seconds is pretty radical! What are you using for an audio interface? Is this a new problem, or does it occur when you open other instruments? I'm intrigued!Mewman

Hi Mewman!Yeah, this has me freaked out!Yes, it is an EXS24- I selected an RnB kit- it the arrange area when I record it shows RnB. on the left it shows as Crystal Pad.(I made a mistake earlier- the note I'm playing is actually 1 octave below middle c)This is what happens.I set the arrange track to recordthe tracks start recordingI'm going to use shave and a hair cut just for rhythm purposes.I play SHAVE AND A HAIR CUT 2 BITS..I immediately hear SHAVE and a hair cut 2 bits,,,it records exactly where it is suppose tonow , if I played just that one phrase- and stopped playing in about 3 seconds I'd hear not in the cymbal sound but in a static sound- that exact rhythm pattern. the static sounds like the sound when a mic cable is loose, or like when you are recording and you punch in and you get that zzzzzit-At first I thought it was just latency- but if that was the case wouldn't the midi sound also be generated, then I thought perhaps delay-- but again the actual sound would happen..I have to run out now, but, when I get back I'm going to try a new kit patch and see if I can replicate it,( hopefully not). Thanks for any help you can provide!!!Bob

Hey Bob,So let me get this straight. As you are playing the rhythm, you hear it coming out of the monitor in real time, as it should be. Then, 3 seconds later, you hear a static noise that is a messed up version of what you just played, like a static echo?....radical, dude!I can't say I've experienced anything like this. I have had a static sounding version of what I was trying to record happen in real time when there was a mismatch between the sample rates of my audio interface and the sample rate I chose in a song (44k for the song, 48k for the interface). Is it possible you have your interface set at a different sample rate? This would still not explain such an insane latency. Sorry, but I'm scratching my head on this one...Mewman

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure software monitoring is off if you are not using it. Also make sure the drivers for your interface are up to date.
