Favorite Headphones?

Ok, i just checked and that is the model i have.stick, those look like really nice headphones, nice price tag as well!mazz, i agree, it's amazing how different a mix can sound after stepping away for awhile.

I've got a set of Grado's that I am very happy with. Although I've read warnings about mixing with headphones, these are excellent for checking placement in the stereo field. They sound well balanced and I find that for late night practice sessions I can last a long time with little ear fatigue. They run from around $100 to close to $1000. I cashed in on a special that Alessandro Music Series offered a couple of years ago. Mewman

beyer dynamic dt 880's, if it was legal, I would marry them, beyond comfy, response is off the chain, vented so your ears dont get sweaty, they are just like the bentley of headphones as far as I have ever seen, Love them to death

and you can mix fine in head phones, you just dont want to mix ONLY in head phones/

Yeah, I agree with the milf, I'll mix with headphones, and I'll also use the monitors as well. I think you can achieve a decent balance utilizing the two. For me, it's nice ta' hear what everything sounds like up close using the phones, and then switch to the monitors to get the phat overall sound.

I actually prefer headphones for some things, like really fine articulation of dynamics, if theres no good mono monitors around, I will go in the phones, and when I need to listen extremely deep into the mix, I find headphones help a bunch in spotting the points way in the back of the sound wall. most other times I will check stereo positioning on them, just cause thats how I learned, so I can spot the right lay out if the sound ribbon between the monitors seems distorted (sadly, a lot of monitors are set up improperly as far as center imaging anymore, in my experience any way), tho yeah, I would be a little wary about finalizing in them, I always use them as a reference for finalization (just because the use of headphones instead of speakers has gone way up at current as the song listening standard) but not the definitive finalization.

For years I was using a $99 pair of Sony MDR-7506 and they were great for tracking but when I finally spent the money on my monitors I realized that I couldnt mix with these headphones... ;(My current pair is AKG K 271 that have a nice feature and they turn off when you take them off.... so now I dont have to worry if I have a live room mic that picks up leakage from a stray pair of headphones that someone is not wearing. They sound great and I can get a rough mix (during the quiet hours) and then go to the full monitors when doing the real mixing.Works well for me.

Thanks for all the tips! I had a trigger finger on an eBay auction for some AKG 141s. But I do believe I have developed a craving for those Ultrasone Pro 650s. And they were on sale at Musician's Friend for $199. How come great deals always cost money, anyway?...

ah, i have some akg k171's I use for when I need isolation (recording) the low ends a little wonky on em, but they are pretty good phones
