Thanks for sharing gang...great thread. Between this thread and a few others I've lurked, I think I'm going to upgrade my no-name to a Fender P with a bridge pickup, if I find one that plays well for me.But it's awesome to hear what the next level of musician is pondering.

Bill, Gibson's 2007 Eb0 active reissue is a monster, if you can find one....(maybe wrong model number), it had two pickups and that funky "Allen Woody" bridge...

Now I'm back in the "probably can't afford one" camp. I'm going to have to be very budget minded in any purchases I make for awhile. I need to get my gear lust in check because the truth is there are too many "need" items on my short list right now.

billg...Quote:Hey Vicky, I don't have any problem with enough low end from the hollowbodies that I use (Epiphone Rivoli, a newer Ibanez) in fact, i usually have to roll a lot off because they get to daggone boomy. Hey there...I find it much easier to work with boomy....and tougher with not enough low-end.....I had flatwounds on my Guild hollow body, and it sounded great!!...but over a few months I could see the neck getting pulled over from the string tension...The bass came with strings that are a copper color and I don't know what kind they actually were....and now i have a similar looking set on, but they don't sound 'phat' or warm....and horrible in a louder setting....just wondering if you or anyone else has any advice on strings for this bass....thanks,vtbp

A lot of folks swear by the Labella flats. I'm using fender flats on my Ibanez hollowbody & I used Labellas on the Rivoli. If money were no object I'd buy Pyramids, around $50 a set I believe.

Upgrade your monitors and now you can tell how bad your mics suck. Next, you'll need room treatment, better VIs, cables....Vicky, that wouldn't be the model Sheryl Crow plays, would it?
