Able to make me laugh but also to give comfort and offer words of wisdom. I am so sorry for what you have gone through. While I struggle it did have a happy outcome. I cannot imagine how life would be now if it hadn't. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing what you learned. Some people have asked me why I have feelings of grief considering that it had a happy outcome. I never know what to tell them. I don't know why myself. They tell me to not think about what could have happened since it didn't happen. I smile and say OK but the thoughts still come. Thank you for writing about "the board of directors inside of us". That explains some things. I feel as if I am going through mourning even though she is still with me. It is strange. Maybe I am mourning life as it was - when I felt as if my family and I were invincible - like nothing bad could ever happen to one of us because... because things like that just don't happen. And then it did... and now it is hard to not think about how vulnerable we are as humans and how easy a life can end. Thank you!I really hope I can come to the Rally. If I do I was thinking the flags would be the best way to communicate. Then we can talk from across the room. Just lift the flags high over your head and I'll see them no matter how many other people are in the room. Sept 14, 2008, 1:06pm, hurowitz wrote:Congrats, LydiaGreat music- you earned it! Thank you for your kind thoughts, Lydia. Of all the things I've learned so far in life, the most important is to trust myself. To trust what I feel is real for me, even if it may not make sense to others (or even if it doesn't make sense to me). This was one of the deepest gifts loss has given me.I am fortunate to have amazing friends and loved ones who know how to stand stand witness to the healing process without judgment or expectation -- to simply hold a compassionate space for however the process needs to unfold. This made things so much easier than they might otherwise have been when I walked through my particular journeys through loss.In my experience, part of the grieving process includes grieving the actual incident; a larger part is grieving the loss of associated attachments and expectations -- e.g. the expectation that certain people can be of suppor to us, or that our loved ones will always be with us, or that what we thought life would be suddenly changes to something completely new and unknown. It's a courageous -- and daunting -- place to be.It sounds as though you have well-intentioned people around you who are trying their best to help you feel better about what has happened. Sadly, they may not have the ability to hold the "messy" or confusing parts of the process (grief, loss, sadness) and want you to skip right to the happy ones. In my experience, resolution and healing come only by fulling embracing and walking through the sadness and loss. Here's hoping you can find people who can give you a safe place to do so. If you ever want to talk more about this, feel free to drop me a PM . . . Best wishes,Suz
