Other than that, length is generally open... relatively speaking. A 6 minute demo would probably not go over well cheersHummin'bird

My stereotypical rules are keep Country songs under 3:30, keep Pop under 4:15 and keep Rock under 5:00 - that should keep stuff pretty safe!

I wouldn't think the times would matter as long as it's not excessive.....with demos...be short & to the point. Eliminate the long guitar solo's unless they are critical to the song.

I'm really green to this topic, but here's what I've heard (and from where)- any radio song 3:00 --> 3:30 ("101 Songwriting Wrongs" - Pat & Pete Luboff, "6 Steps to Songwriting Success" - Jason Blume) I guess we have to make room for the commercials.- demo pitches, chorus has to be well underway before 60 seconds (heard from a "date with a demo" moderator: "don't bore us, get to the chorus!")

aye for radio pitches, you wanna shoot for 3-4 unless the story completely isnt wrap up-able or it takes the extra length to really get the point of the song across (I know a few radio A&R's and I have seen them listen to like a minute of song, see theres 6 more minutes left, and just click it off with a sigh, most times they try to listen to the whole song if its 3-4 min)
in the time of trumpets and guitars, there was an oboe
