I use Alesis M1Active 620's. I found them new on Ebay, I can't recall what i paid for them but I do believe they were less than $300. I freakin love them!

I have used the M1 Active MkII for more than three years and I am happy with the bit have nothing to compare with.Last week I damaged a tweeter during mixing a song with some electronic synth soundI find this a little bit worryingAnyone know how to get spare parts? order form Alesis I guess?Tom

You might want to try the Yamaha HS80M's they are modeled after the NS10's but they have one upgrade that makes them better, they handle more of the lower frequencies, you can actually hear when you are overpowering the lower end of the song and distorting out, they're great and you can pick the pair up for about $500.

I finally got my Mackie HR824s. Bought them gently used from a buddy in Chi-town. Got the pair for $500.
