Re: slave computer
Actually Stick got me thinking about Macs again but I would seriously consider keeping my G5 as my DAW and pawning off the heavy lifting of the sample streaming to a newer Mac. My G5 can play back oodles of audio tracks and also has a UAD 1 card in it and everything works just great. Also a slave would mean that if I can't get it up and running quickly, I can still get work done because I'm not transitioning everything all at once.HMMMMM Damn you Matto!! You guys rock!! I Love you Man !! (slurring after too many glasses of wine!!)Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: slave computer
I've had some very informative assistance from the VisionDaw folks and apparently their 64 bit system is set up so that Kontakt can use the entire 4G of memory. This would be fantastic as it would allow a very large orchestral template to reside in memory and still be able to stream from hard drive using DFD. When Kontakt goes 64 bit it will play nice with EW Play which is already 64 bit. In the meantime having 64 MIDI channels and possibly that many articulations loaded would be huge.Mark at VisionDaw is very quick in responding and very knowledgeable. I like having a warm fuzzy feeling when it comes to customer service and so far that's the case with VisionDaw. They do these purpose built computers all day long and for me that's a huge plus.Lots of good food for thought!Mazz

Re: slave computer
Dell still makes new machines with winxp on them. Look under the small business lease options on Dell's website. There's no financing options available so you have to buy the machine outright. Can't stand moving to new operating software -- When I think of all the wasted hours I've spent fixing drivers and applications because Bill Gates decided he'd like to make some more money by having everyone in the world re-buy their computers, hardware, operating software and application software makes me cringe. I still have an old Korg 1212 i/o sitting in a box because the drivers only work with win98. Nice card, wasted. Can't bring myself to throw it out!computers -- grrrrrr!!!!doug s.

Re: slave computer
The new system has arrived. I hooked it up last night and did some testing. It works perfectly. It boots up quickly, has no extra crap in the OS. It's a lean mean sample playback machine. Those guys know what they're doing when it comes to streamlining an overbloated modern operating system!http://www.visiondaw.com/productcart/pc ... ct=548It's dead silent and slid right in my rack no problem.I installed Midi Over Lan on my Mac, the new system came with it already installed. Midi Over Lan works great, there is no perceptible delay. It's pretty easy to set up, no thanks to the manual which is written in a version of English that I've not seen before. I'm waiting to buy a used 2408MK2 from a friend early this week so I can hook up the ADAT out of the Emu card. I did get an Alesis Firewire interface but it seemed to put a bit of extra strain on my system so I'm going to take it back. I'm already on MOTU hardware so I'll stick with what works.I'll give an update on performance as I get going. This is perfect timing as I'll be putting it to constant use in the next few weeks on the film project. I intend on creating as large a template as I can and it'll be interesting to see what this baby can do when its full!Cheers,Mazz

Re: slave computer
I have a VisionDAW from about four years ago, and it's the only one of my Windows machines that's never given me any trouble. You pay a little more for them, but to me it's been worth it.

That is great Mazz. Glad it is working out like it should.
