Delay time calculator
Hi everybody. May be all of you know that tool, I don't know. I post this because I listen a lot of songs on the forum and I've noticed that many times, the delays on some tracks weren't in the beat of the song and it has a weird effect. The link here is for download free in few minutes a tool that calculate the delay time (in milliseconds) vs the bpm of your songs. I use this all the time when I put a delay on a track.Hope this will help some people. www.download.com/Delay-Time-Calculator/ ... 14521.html Jean Custeau / bleuciel@mail.com

Re: Delay time calculator
Thanks for the link, Jean. Also, most delay plugins these days have the option to sync to the host tempo and then give delay times in note values which makes it pretty easy to make delays in sync with the music. The delays in Stylus RMX work this way, for instance.Sometimes a free-running delay can sound good but it has to be mixed right so as to not interfere with the groove.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: Delay time calculator
Magnus Emilsson is the author of BPMCalc. I mainly use it for TapTempo to quickly figure out a songs tempo, but it also has a Delay calc function.Handy little piece of software.I run it on Mac OSX

Re: Delay time calculator
If anyone is a little leery about downloading software onto their PC's, or if you're using older gear, here's a link to a conversion chart that's handy & easy to use. I also use math when calculating reverb times, especially for snares which can really muddy up a mix. Oh, and cowbells, which should be mandatory in all music.http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator ... ime.htmOff topic, but speaking of downloads, does anyone know what studio buddy- http://www.studiobuddy.com/txi/ is? I'm hesitant about putting it on my PC. Thanks,Wade

Re: Delay time calculator
Relation of quarter-note delay in milliseconds to BPM is 60 / BPM * 100060 seconds in a minute, divided by BPM = seconds per beat (quarter note). Multiply by 1000 to convert seconds to milliseconds.Multiply this result by .75 to get "U2" delay, which is dotted eighth (75% of a quarter note).96 BPM, quarter note delay is 60/96 * 1000 = 625 ms. U2 = 469 msnbwww.normbowler.com

It's been on my computer for years, no problem. It's just a lot of useful tips about how to get good recordings. It's mostly geared towards analogue and tape so keep that in mind, but there's useful tips about eq, compression, miking techniques, that kind of stuff.Elser
