Re: Sun records recording techniques
for integrating into a DAW, I would use the Classic Delay (free!) VST from Kjaerhus Audio.http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-delay.phpSet it on the 'old tape' preset to get an echoplex sound. Classic slap echo is 200 - 300 ms. I used to set repeats to zero, but that makes it sound to dry. a better setting is repeat/feedback at 15-25%p.s. All the Kjaerhus "classic" effects are killer quality. and if you buy a VST wrapper you can use them in Pro Toolsnorm bowlerwww.normbowler.com

An Echoplex unit would probably get you there, as it is what they appear to have used onstage to get the same studio reverb. Was it a Maestro they used?"After attending a session, Phillips decided to buy it and hired Billy Sherrill as his engineer. The multitrack installation was by Ray Butts, who had earlier built the Echoplex amplifier that had enabled Scotty Moore to re-create the studio reverb on stage."From: http://www.rockabillyhall.com/SunStudios1.html
