?Question?
Sorry for my ingnorance, but I was hoping someone can help me with "track length" on submissions. If I have a tune that I think suits the listing perfectly, except that my already uploaded mp3 is 4.5 minutes long - and the listing says: "1-3 min."... how stupid is it to submit it anyway?Anything I can do on my end before submitting? My tunes are all already mixed and mastered and they are all live recordings of acoustic instruments. No way to go back and edit/remix and re-upload amendments... Thanks in advance for any input...

Re: ?Question?
Hey,I think the tracks won't make it past screening. Unfortunately companies are strict about what they request... like radio ads or jingles.. if they say they want sumin 30sec and you give a track that's 29 / 31, they'll reject it...

Hi centerpiece,Can't you just edit the song via digital editing, like cut out a couple of sections from the middle to make it shorter? This is almost always possible, even on final mixed/mastered music. If you don't have a computer and digital editing software, then ask around to see if you know somebody who owns something like Protools, Cubase, Logic, Cakewalk Sonar, Tracktion, Wavelab etc etc. Anyone who owns (and is proficient with) any of the mentioned software packages would probably be able to do this in 15 minutes...matto

Re: ?Question?
Editing of the final stereo master is done all the time. I'd do as matto suggested.Something to think about up front is to have some ideas of the edits you want to make before you either do them yourself or get some help. It'll save time. Just edit it so the flow of the music stays as intact as possible. It can be jarring to hear those edits for the first time so try to step back and listen as a listener and not as the writer (easier said than done). This will help you in the long run because you'll need to do this if you get a contract and they want 15, 30 or 60 second versions and they want you to do the edits.Good luck,Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: ?Question?
I have done edits on finished work and if done properly and in the right places no one will ever know it was a longer piece. Good luck. K

Re: ?Question?
Back in the day I used to edit 60 second commercials into 30s or 15s on quarter-inch tape with a razor blade and scotch tape. Now there's some fun. Needless to say, I talked the jingle company into one of those new-fangled computers post haste. Centerpiece, an edit like you're talking about is a piece of cake. If I didn't have an artist in the studio all week I'd do it for you. When's your deadline?
