Anyone Used MasterWriter

I considered getting it, but I think i'll stick to using Microsoft Notepad & RhymeZone.com or a notebook and rhyming dictionary and save the money for different things

I bought this over a year ago, primarily for its organization functions. I've enjoyed that aspect of it- one place for all my lyrics (multiple versions), song titles, song starts, audio recordings, etc. I even used it to keep a sort of 'studio session log', and to track results of TAXI submissions (much like that wonderful spreadsheet Steve mentioned and Bob posted..thnx guys). What I haven't used it much for are the rhyming and thesarus features. I guess they've been helpful once or twice, but that wasn't why I bought it anyway. Perhaps it's a bit of overkill for what I've been using it for. I've been thinking that I could probably accomplish the same thing using a combination of iTunes, the versions function in Word, and now that great spreadsheet! Also, I don't believe they've updated it once since it was introduced, but I could be wrong about that.

I've had it for about 2 years..... and my forward ratio is still zero.......I like the program, but haven't used it much. Now that the laptop is integratign with the studio, I'll probably start using it more. Its good when you are trying to get ideas to tweak a song, but since lyric quality is subjective, you have to use your own professional judgement as to whether a suggested rhyme or phrase is good, dated, cliche, or out of context. Rhyming Dictionaries RULE! Mine was published back in the 60's and it's still my favorite reference.(Sorry, but I'm lucky to know enough about computers to log on to this site... What little I've looked into MasterWriter, I think it would overwhelm me.)Ted

I used Masterwriter and loved it until it wouldn't recognize a backup that I had made and I lost a bunch of new songs and ideas to it. It has a weird program setup (I think it was designed for a MAC initially) and backing up songs is a little weird. I use lyricist and although there's no audio feature the program is rock-solid for my purposes. Backup is straight forward.doug s.

I tried the demo, thought it was overpriced and told them so. This was about a year ago. Then I found Verseperfect- with McGill English Dictionary of Rhyme 2.0. It can provide just about all that Masterwriter does, and it is free. Even so, I usually end up using pen and paper, or I walk around with my Boss Micro recorder, to come up with lines.

Been using Masterwriter for all my lyrics work for years. Think Songguard is down or discontinued; anyone know more about that?

Are there any standalone programs like Songguard? I would be interested in buying something like that to keep things protected before I officially file for a copyright. Its got to be better than the mailing trick for copyrighting that we all know about.

Well, I finally downloaded the demo and had some time to work with it. When I already had a thought out set of lyrics that I was working on , I didn't really find MW to be helpful for generating any ideas or to be better than my old Roget's fare. However, on a new project starting from scratch, where I was just jotting down some of my ideas and then writing my lyrics, I found MW to be really helpful in generating ideas that I hadn't thought of and was pretty useful to get the juices flowing.
