I have Logic studio (the new package) which talks about setting up nodes to pull your VIs off of other computers. Since I actually have an Intel Mac that will not run Silver XP , and I also have some other software (bass and drum rig) with the same issue, I want to run those on my non-intel Mac that I just got. Has anyone worked with the nodes function yet? Anything to be sure to look out for before I dig in and start working on this? Thanks in advance - Anne

Re: Help: setting up Logic nodes for VIs
I haven't, but I don't think that's how Nodes works. The node acts as another processor, not a separate machine. You need to be able to run the plugs in the main app, and designate the node as the processor for that. And besides, last I heard, you can only use the Logic native plugs on the Nodes. Now, if you want to set up your PPC Mac with another copy of Logic (or perhaps Mainstage) running and connect them via MIDI/Audio that's a different story. Then basically, you have a MIDI interface on each computer, and on the Intel (your "main" computer) you record the MIDI data that's sent out to the the 2nd Mac to play it back. Sorta like the way folks use GigaStudio... your 2nd Mac is just a fancy sample playback rig. But, then you have to deal with getting the audio back to the main computer, whether you want to print it to audio, or just listen through the main outputs. So, you'll need either digital or analog connections to get the audio off the 2nd Mac to the first.

That is what I was looking for. I can put Logic on the 2nd mac, and then use the vi's from both, but send the output from the 2nd mac to my first mac. I'll post the outcome in case anyone else wants to try it.

Anne, as stick says, that's not what nodes does. All it does is offload the calculation to a second machine. You can't use the memory on the other machine, etc. - it's only the processing.

Re: Help: setting up Logic nodes for VIs
Got it. I was reading the collaboration made easy part of the Logic Studio web page and thought I could share instruments between 2 computers with Logic, rather than have to load the instruments on to each computer. I thought that is what the node function does. Update on EWQL upgrades to PLAY, for those in the same EW / intel Mac situation:I received an email from EW today -"At this time PLAY upgrades will come in the following editions: Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus. In order to be eligible for the PLAY upgrade price, you need to own the equivalent version of either the Gold Bundle or Platinum Bundle. PLAY will include the content from what is now the Bundle, that is, both the original and xp versions. "Silver was supposed to include the upgrade when I purchased it but that will not be occurring. Off to look for Kontakt.
