wooHOO!!!...it's HEE-RE.

Post by tedsingingfox » Mon Dec 17, 2007 5:12 pm

My first digital 4-track recorder has arrived. Even though the big goal, eventually, is a new MAC and ProTools, I can hardly take it, I'm so excited about getting started. BUT, fair warning. I'm about to drive every last one of you crazy with questions. Too bad. Thank you, you two. You know who you are. Can't wait to grind your teeth with my first terrible stab at it...And a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to my ENTIRE Taxi Family. You guys have helped me change my life. With so much love and gratitude...I remainThe Grateful,Ted

The Grateful Ted,What super fabulous holiday news, Ted!!! You got your new toy!!! I'm so excited for you all my teeth fell out!!! Go ahead. Drive us crazy. Though I don't have any experience with a 4-track, you are welcome to pick my brain for anything that I might have to offer. That includes ProTools. Though really, I'm just a good hack. Never went to school for any of this stuff, but I find my way around all right in the virtual world! And I'm a pretty quick study, so that helps. What great news!!! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!! I'm celebrating with you here in snowy Wisconsin!!! Raags

With only 4 tracks you're gonna have to fill them with only the best bits. Rock on my friend. And welcome to the wonderful world of recording technology.

Great news, I got so excited I pricked my finger as I was decorating my Christmas cactus! I would check the manual for the ability to bounce down tracks. This could raise you up to seven tracks and since they are digital, tape hiss won't be an issue.Congrats and I would love to be at the christening and see you smash a bottle champagne over the head of the lead engineer (well you wouldn't want to hurt that delicate piece of equipment!)

Teac used to publish a book called "Multitrack Primer" that was all about recording with four tracks. You may want to track one down- its full of tips for getting started.

grats ted, what model 4 track? (I am a gear geek) I remember way WAY back, I used to actually play a guitar through a pocket amp into a line in on a personal digital recorder, and then have to play it out into my computers sound card into cool edit, and then erase it, and sing into the same recorder and do it again for the vocal while listening to the guitar on my comp headphones, haha, so a digital 4 track is awesome man, you can do some damage with it, =0)

Oh incase you where wondering, something about the pocket amp really really ticked off my sound card and caused major distortion, so I was using the pdr for its built in compressor.

Bouncing gets old, but you can do a lot if you plan it right. I used to do a lot with a 4-track cassette...4 on 1, 3 on 2, 2 on 3, and 1 on 4 = 10 tracks. With a digital 4 track, seems to me you could keep transferring separate tracks onto a free program like Audacity, synching them up, and adding as many tracks as you'd ever need...Anyone tried that?
