PC Motherboard/chipset for digital audio
its getting close to time again for me to rebuild my computer and so i need to reeducate myself on what the best motherboard and chipset and cpu configuration/over cost effectiveness, for digital audio... i use sonar and gigastudio but am using more and more plugins in sonar and less gigastudio as time goes on...any help appreciated..dave

Here are some general tips. Get as much CPU and RAM as you can afford.Keep your audio input processing (analog to digital converstion)seperate and away from the motherboard by getting a standalone unit. You will generally get better quality than a soundcard plugged into the motherboard.

yep,, i agree,,,im looking for more specific information about chipset/motherboard/cpu im just gathering info from a lot of different usergroups.. like i just found out that i texas instruments firewire chipset controller tends to be less buggy . right now im leaning towards a gigabyte motherboard with intel p35 chipset..but i might wait and get the latest chipset which is the x38thanks again.dave

Digidesign (ProTools) dictates that only an Intel chipset will work with their product.

HARD DRIVE... Get a fast hard drive! At least 10,000rpm. I use a SCSI 15,000rpm hard drive. 2gb RAM/MEMORY I recommend... and a good/expensive quality ram/memory at that.
