You mean What is a library. Well, it's a collection of samples of an instrument or instruments. Some people talk about libraries as being for a specific sampler - Native Instruments Kontakt, TASCAM GigaStudio/GVI, Steinberg HALion, Apple EXS24 - and virtual instruments as being either software synths or libraries that come embedded in a player, but I don't really make the distinction; to me a library is a library whether or not it comes in an OEM player. However I'd call Ivory Grand a V.I. because its player is unique.

Wavelore is the company with the new pedal steel. It's not up on their website yet (wavelore.com), but I saw it at the TASCAM booth at AES NY last weekend.

Quote:I'm not sure if ProTools has a sampler instrument but if it does, I'd be willing to bet it would open samples in formats like Kontakt or Logic ES...something. There's a lot of stuff out there from many companies. Steel Guitar is a tough one. Maybe someone has some ideas on that.I'm no help on the steel guitar, but ProTools does have a sampler plug-in now. It's called Structure. And there's three versions, a fully editable version, a stripped down LE version and a Free version that will play back a bunch of sample formats, including EXS24 (which I use all the time).

I recently purchased a collection called "Whole Lotta Country" (Big Fish Audio). I'm still learning how to use it and haven't messed with the steel guitar much yet, but they are nicely sampled. It includes fiddle, mandolin, pedal steel, banjo, dobro, hi-string guitar, Telecaster, 6-string bass, and gut bucket. It works in Logic's EXS24 sampler. It's priced pretty reasonably. I think I paid $150 or less. If you want to hear what I've been able to do with it so far using fiddle and dobro, go to this link:http://www.driskellmusic.com/demo/what_ ... that.htmOh, and I HAVE used the East West solo violin samples for a fiddle before. It works pretty well if you use pitch bend liberally enough.
