Deleting Part Of A Track

Hi, I have the Boss BR 90 8 track. Have just had a lovely melody done by a friend on his keyboard, which is higher spec than mine and is why I asked him to copy mine as I wrote the music, he then burnt it onto a cd so I could record the audio track onto a track on my Boss which I have done no problem. Only snag is he didnt start playing till 17 seconds so there is a long silence before it starts lol.Has anyone tried deleting part of a track, is it easy to do and results good. Thought I would ask before trolling through the manual so I can prepare myself for the worst if need be ha ha. I really think I need to take some of them 17 seconds off, that is just too long to wait for a song to kick in.Thanks.Daff x

Hi Daff...... Assuming you've loaded the track to a v track in the boss as a wav..... You want to copy or move the keyboard track from a desired start point to the bitter end from where it is now to a point in time on the virtual timeline where you want it.... erasing will only create a gap..... if the tracks starts at exactly 00:17:00 and say ends at 03:17:00, you want to mark these as locator points and then copy or move this whole section to 00:02:00. This will effectively make the track move to a start point at 2 seconds. If you already recorded additional tracks in sync with the keyboard part, you need to move or copy those tracks to the same start point.....These functions do work in the Boss and I've used them many times.... Good news - I have managed to take out part of the 15 second delay at the beginning of the track that I had recorded from the cd lol. I just copied the track to another track indicating from which point in time to the end - bingo - it worked fine.I recorded my vocals on another track but lazily I bounced the tracks together on a cd so I could hear it away from the house etc, it sounds like the vocals are completely separate from the backing track, obvioiusly this is because I have not mixed it down yet. I understand it will have to be mixed to a virtual track, is that the actual mixing down process or is that separate task, it isnt very clear in the instructions as to what mixing down actually is. I see it as gelling the tracks together ready to make a master. Thank you for the advice re taking out unwanted parts of the track, it worked a treat and sounds great (if you ignore my vocals lol - may need a different mic for recording).xx
