Intel duel/quad core vs AMD 64
Hi,As a former software guy I know next to nothing about hardware, especially the "latest" scoop.Generally speaking, what advantages/disadvantages might there be regarding getting a dual/quad core Intel vs getting an AMD 64 dual/quad core.I have Sonar which comes in a 64 bit version and I don't know off the top of my head which of my VI's also might be available as 64 bit VI's. As most of you know, I only do VI based instrumental compositions and very rarely have to deal with processing actual sound files. My biggest "problem" is dealing with large setups involving EWQL Gold XP. Like every greedy "orchestral" midi guy, I want to load up every articulation in a template and have them all available at my fingertips without buying 16 computers all ganged together. Any help with "new" processors 101? Thanks,Dave

Re: Intel duel/quad core vs AMD 64
Dave,This is pushing a bit ahead but once you decide on your processor, I highly recommend researching purpose-built DAW computers. I bought a PC specifically for running EQWLO as a slave and it came already hardware/audio configured with all the unnecessary crap in the operating system taken out and it ran great out of the box which went against all my previous experiences with Windows computers (as you know I'm an avowed Mac head anyway). I now believe that a Windows machine can work well for audio but only if it's set up by someone who really knows how to get the basic hardware and Operating system working seamlessly. If you don't want to spend a bunch of time getting things to work, look for one of the ready-made DAWS. They might seem like they cost more up front but what is your time worth?Take care,MazzPS: The new Macs can run Windows and they are screaming fast. I want...
