Auto Tune Questions...

Post by ksonix » Tue Jul 31, 2007 11:00 pm

I was recording a ProTools session recently and the engineer used AutoTune on the vocals a few times. If I mix the ProTools session in another computer that does not have AutoTune, do the effects still carry over?Kojo

that depends on if autotune was used simply as an insert-fx (realtime) or if the autotune was "bounced", meaning the effect is "in" the audiofile.if he just loaded autotune in a track in the mixer, it won't be in the file itself. the signal just got processed. if you start the session on a diffrent machine which hasn't got autotune installed, than there is no auto tune.

As Martin said, make sure the AutoTune track is bounced as audio.I would recommend leaving the original vocal track untouched and only bouncing the places where the "fixes" were made with Autotune to a new track and crossfading to that track when the "fixed" parts are playing. Sometimes AutoTune can do weird things and if you find you don't like the results when you start mixing, at least you have the original track to go back to and try again. An ounce of prevention........Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!
