Why, I'm poo pooing right now! (ah, the joys of wireless!)Thanks for all da answers... I actually just changed my speaker setup and now they sound completely different. Previously, they were in a corner, and I'm actually quite surprised at HOW different they sound. I'm hearing things more accurately and consistently now (I think). Before, I could move my head a little forward and the bass would change significantly, etc. I also noticed that, now that my monitors are in more open space, I'm hearing more treble... is this my imagination? It's the same room, but now they're set up in the middle of the room with space on all sides. For the record, the walls are bare for the most part, so I imagine there's a lot of reflection going on, but at least they're not cornered anymore. Dave

Reminds me of cryogenically treated guitar/bass strings!By the way, I like the sound of my power cables, they sound the best when struck against an old snare drum but it takes some practice to get the wrist action right.Mazz

Hey Mazz, if you have molded connectors, try them against an empty plastic water bottle. Close miked they provide a nice persussive hit. If you are too lazy to try this yourself, I'm happy to announce "Ed's bizzare hit sample library", which includes not only plastic bottles struck with varius and sundry objects, but my skull drum (from the night market in Kuala Lumpur) and various rude noise. All recorded using cooked cables and I rented Dave's RCA connectors for the session. Of course it will be availabe only on Johnny's wax cylinders, so you might need our special (optional) adapter.

Great idea Ed. I'm going to ask the question that I know is burning inside everyone on this forum: How long do you cook the water bottles before you record them? This has been bugging me for the last 10 minutes or so!Mazz

It all depends. I live at 6,000 feet, so we need to cook them longer here than flatlanders do. And is your water flouridated? I mean I can't just give an off the cuff answer for such an involved technical issue. It wouldn't be right.

DaveDave, back to your original question!Glad you had some success in moving your speakers. The enhanced treble may be because it was being masked by the bass before, not sure. If speakers are in a corner, the bass is reinforced and you are probably now hearing less bass which your brain is translating in to more treble. You'll get used to the new sound. If you can put anything on the walls that is a bit absorptive or add a futon or something to the room to break up the parallel-ness of it, that would be helpful.I can say for sure that it's never a good idea to cook your speakers, it doesn't work like it does for cables and water bottles. Here's how Neil Young mixes!Neil's got a mountain ranch above Santa Cruz, CA. He's got a huge sound system in his house, and one in his barn. The property has a lake on it, and when it's time to mix, Neil goes out on his lake in a boat. The house is channel R., and the barn is channel L.He speaks to this engineers through a walkie talkie. "More house! More barn!" He adjusts levels, eq, and panning from his rowboat.Ah, Neil ---- One of a kind! Ern

Blankets would probably work but would look like crap! If you can get some foam panels that would help. Don't totally cover all the walls, a totally dead room has different issues on the other end of the spectrum from a too live one.Auralex, Real Traps and Primacoustic all have good info on their sites. Markertek sells foam panels pretty inexpensively (relatively). You could figure out how to mount it without having to glue it to the walls if that is a concern.Do a little research first. Also do the "clap" test. If you clap your hands while you're sitting in the listening position and you can hear a fast, buzzing echo, you have a lot of reflection problems. Deadening one of the parallel walls would help a lot in this situation. This is fast reaching the end of my knowledge and I don't want to steer you wrong. There is a wealth of info out there and a lot of DIY projects that you could do to help your situation. Mazz
