Hello all. I'm Norm. New to this forum, but not to composing and recording.Recently I dumped my old Friend Cubase 5.1 (circa 2002) which I had used for 5 years, and switched over to Pro Tools 7.1. After some fumbling, I think I am competent, and am steadily improving. So I thought I would start a thread for PT7.1/Win tips and tricks. The reson I specify Windows is that the Mac and Windows versions have very different keyboard interfaces, and the magic answer to the question "How do you..." is often "Click fiddle Ctrl-Shift whatever" -- and these answers are completely different for Windows and Mac.So use this thread if you have tips to share, questions to ask, or whatever. I have a few tips I'll add to it in the next few days, and will jump in to answer questions when I can.nb

OK, as promised, here's a por tools trick.RTAS plug ins and virtual instruments: !'spensive!VST plug ins: freely available, much less expensive -- often free. (www.kvraudio.com)But Pro tool won't use VST, only RTAS format. The trick is to get the VST-to-RTAS wrapper (converter) from fxpansion (www.fxpansion.com). It's $99 US. For less than the price of one RTAS plug in, you get access to dozens (hundreds) of VST plug ins in pro tools. Later on I'll share some favorites...nb

The best plug-ins and V.I.s aren't inexpensive or free, whether they're RTAS or not.
