Re: Bass sounds
Dave,I have just 3 dangling dongles (soon to be 4) . Some, such as iLok and Syncrosoft, can handle multiple authorizations from different vendors. But, of course, there is no standard and now YT has their own which is in a different format altogether. Maybe it's time to go back to banging rocks together....... Nah!!

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Quote:It might be helpful to know all the facts before accusing a company of shady business practices... My apologies to Yellow Tools for my comment. It wasn't meant as an indictment of shady practices and wasn't well written. I'm just saying that based on the importance of the information (you can't use the program without it) that the information should be given prominence equal to its importance. At Sweetwater for example, the system requirements are nowhere to be seen (their choice I guess) so having the dongle info there doesn't help. Looking at several online sales sites, there is no mention of the dongle requirement in the basic product description that Yellow Tools provides. It's certainly not a shady thing and not exclusive to Yellow Tools, just that if a dongle is required for any product, that the information should be obvious in the basic description that is provided to every site, in addition to their website, system requirements, box, etc. On the flip side of things, at Sweetwater the dongle does show up at the top right portion of the page as a "Customers also bought..." but that's a sales function of the Sweetwater website (the kind of thing I used to develop) solely there to entice online users to purchase more stuff.Anyway, having been on their side of the fence (Yellow Tools that is) I guess I'm more critical about consumer communication issues.Dave

Re: Bass sounds
Yeah I agree it should tell you when you buy the product from third party dealers. Like it does when you order from the YT webshop. Cause it IS annoying when you buy something and then can't use it right away, no doubt about that.As far as the bad rep that dongles have...the vast majority of that is hearsay propagated on music forums. Sure there are cases of people having legitimate problems, but the same is true for C/R. And just about EVERY piece of music software for that matter. When you see the "anti-dongle" discussion on places like kvr, 95% of the people that are whining and complaining about how horrible they are have never had one on their system.Kinda reminds me of the whining and complaining your hear about Taxi around the net...

Re: Bass sounds
DONGLE HELL!!My Yellow Tools key arrived and proceeded to not play nice with my Syncrosoft authorizations. Never had a problem until I put that little yellow thing into my computer last night. Then Majestic failed to pass the Audio Units examination process in Digital Performer so I can't use it. The stand alone version comes up with a blank screen. So 16G of supposedly great bass sounds languishing on my hard drive while I wait to hear back from tech support. Such is life in the modern world of music Mazz

Re: Bass sounds
Arghh I'm starting to feel bad for recommending it...I have Synchrosft and YT keys sitting side by side and there has never been a problem whatsoever, they are not even aware of one another.Since I'm not on Mac I can't help you with AU or validations. I REALLY do wish Apple didn't have to go and invent their own plug-in standard though ...but what do you expect in today's world... Do you think Midi would still be possible today?

I sent them the error message that DP generated so maybe they've heard of this before.MIDI is an anomaly. We're so fortunate that it happened at all and I'm amazed that it's still valid and useful to this day. Could it happen today? Good question. The world was smaller back then, it was pretty much some small US companies and a large Japanese company working together. Now the industry is much more global so maybe the answer is no.I'll update this as it progresses.Mazz
