Re: MIDI problems
Nope. I plugged it in again and tried all the keys that purportedly change things, and nothing changed. What is getting me is that the computer sees it as an audio device, but Abelton doesn't see it as MIDI or audio. No need to hang your head, Ed, even Nick is baffled by this one.Ya know, if I had a dollar for every time I've heard a tech guy say, "Wow, I've never seen that before!" I could....... BTW, Dave, wife and I took a drive on the Shawnee Wine Trail today, and, even though I was pretty close to you, homicide never entered my mind. (I have slighly modified the standard definition of stress to "Realizing the futility of violence against inanimate objects and the illegality of violence against people, no matter how justified--in a cosmic sense--it is")

Re: MIDI problems
Quick update--while genius stepson was not putting my computer together because idiot songwriter didn't know the difference between AGP and PCI, we tried to salvage the evening by plugging the keyboard into his Dell laptop. Guess what. It worked. Obviously, there's a problem in my computer--which hopefully won't exist in the new one.

Re: MIDI problems
Did you ever get a new machine or have that problem sorted out. I thought I wouldask because I think plug and play is a very sound technology but not the wayMicrosoft has put it into use. In fact it can be used by hackers to get into your system and TAKE IT OVER. Even the FBI has said it should be turned off. A security software developer even wrote a security patch for it called "UnPlug and Pray". The best thing is that it is free. You can find out about ir and get it here http://www.grc.com/unpnp/unpnp.htmSteve Gibson is a great security software developer and a excellent resource in the windows community. He has many FREE security programs for known windows problems. You can find them here.http://www.grc.com/freepopular.htmAnd about your keyboard. I am on a Macintosh computer which has core level midisupport and is not supposed to need midi drivers either. My USB keyboard will notwork without the driver from Yamaha. In fact it is funny that Yamaha made a USBmidi driver for both Windows and Macintosh, yet both Platforms claim not to need drivers. Computers, as if making music is not hard enough already.

Quote:Did you ever get a new machine or have that problem sorted out. Nope. It's still a paperweight waiting for me to get time to figure out why the &*#$%)(&#*@^% OS won't load! Okay, it started to, then asked for drivers I didn't know about, quit, and now won't start to boot at all. Won't go past the ASUS screen. If anybody wants to take a shot.... Re: MIDI problems
Have you tried booting the machine from another drive? If it is the drive GRC has a very good program to repair andrecover any data. That is if you think it is worth it to even salvage. The program is $89 and is not very large so you candownload it with another machine. There are a lot of people that have had very good results with "Dead" machines.http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm Hope you get it sorted out. K
