Re: Basic 8 track home recorders
HeyI just bought a Tascam US-144 with Cubase for under $200. Thanks for pointing me in that direction, Matto!! I won't have time to try it for a few days, but I can't wait. Now if it only came with singing lessons!!! Casey

Hey Casey, that raises the question if there is any substantive difference between a nonperforming songwriter and a dysfunctional performing songwriter.

Re: Basic 8 track home recorders
Quote:Hi About 2 years ago, for $400, I bought a Roland BOSS BR-864 8 track. It's a nice machine with a lot of features. I only need something for very basic recording to lay down a rough guitar and vocal to give to a producer to use to make a demo. I like that it has some built in drum beats to help this timing-challenged boy attempt to keep time.Question: I find the user interface on it very clunky and hard to use. I eventually get it to do what I want by reading the manual and going through some pain, but it's very non-intuitive IMHO... and I'm a computer guy. Does anyone know if competitor models such as by TASCAM are easier to use? The TASCAM units look pretty much the same, so I wonder.BTW, next time I'd get one with a built in CD burner! CaseyHi there, I know I have joined in on this thread a little late but just to let you know I bought a Boss BR 900 from the Music Live at the NEC recently. I havent had time to play around with it as yet as I am working full time and trying to revise a load of stuff for a band I am joining in June so its quite busy my end. I did have a brief play around with it and the instruction manual make it more confusing so I think its a case of dabbling with it and sussing it that way.I songwrite and play the guitar and keyboard but because of revising all the band material my songwriting etc has had to take a back seat, shame as that is why I bought the Boss BR900 and it does have a cd burner on board so it will be really good. The Tascams are similar but I noticed them a lot more expensive for the same thing. I doubt Tascam are any easier to use, in fact the guy at Music Live demonstrating the Boss BR900 etc, made it look very easy. When I get chance to have a proper go with it I shall let you know my progress. I am sure it is easy once you get into the swing of it.Good luck.Daff xx

Re: Basic 8 track home recorders
DaffSince its the Holiday week, if you get a string of two or three days where you can concentrate and kaizen the BR900 you'll find the time well invested. Pick a couple cover songs (maybe covers) that you know all the parts by heart.... gutar, bass, keys.... and record away.... also, learn how to program the drums and rhythm guide.... beyond the presets so you can make your own patterns and fills.... and learn how to program a drum arrangement for the cover tunes you pick in the song part...... the drum machine is a powerful feature, but like me, if you were never a drummer in the first place you'll have to study and learn how a drummer thinks and plays.... fortunately you can tap the brains of your badmate.... the drums can be a key part of great tracks.... and with time, you can get to a point of knowing how to program drums well enough to fool the listeners..... is it live or is it memorex ?? Does she or doesn't she.... Only a TAXI screener knows for sureIf you need help give me a shout...ArkJack

Re: Basic 8 track home recorders
I was surprised how many folks from Philly are on this board.... we ought to try and get a venue lined up this spring or summer and have a showcase of the Philly TAXI community.... maybe in late summer when the IMC is in town....Daff.... it always amazes me how family unintentionally gets in the way.... they don't understand the dream.... when you get time on your unit feel free to email or pm me with questions....ArkJack
