Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
well that may not work then..what we have is music recordings that we need to record vocals over...in a 2cnd track. With protools we played track one and then in track two heard it and recorded over it (that is we did that when the program was not freezing up)

No, no. ...record one track at a time. You can record and play as many tracks as you want. But you can only record one input at a time (not a full band).

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
That does look like something we could learn. However, we want to record through the computer...so how would we do that with the program using a condeser mic? Right now we have AVS editor and a noodle mic and get tinny, delayed sound. The goal is to be able to capture her vocals and send them off to someone who has asked her to sing for their demo or to be overlaid on background music etc.I did by a condensor mic so we have that.I am unclear how the mic would work with the Sony acid. Thanks!

I just downloaded the free version and I do think I could learn it. I tried to use a mic with it through the mbox and have not figured that out..is it doable? If so that may be a solution..I did not see how to use a mic with it..is a condensor mic considered a midi device?Thanks...

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
Hopefully an Acid user can direct you to the specifics, but a mic isn't a midi device.A loop based program like Acid seems like a good fit for you guys. You'll find yourself spending extra $$ on loops but it's a great way for you (Jessica, whoever) to develop some really cool backing instrumental tracks and then only have to write and record the melody and lyrics. You still call the entire song your own. Regardless, it's a learning process that requires a bunch of small steps before running. One of the biggest eye openers for me was the fact that in addition to being a musician, that I was going to have to become somewhat of a sound engineer as well. You can fight it but you can't really avoid it unless your bank account is unlimited and you can hire out for everything. You'll start having more fun when all these things that don't make sense now start coming together.Dave

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
slimcharm, if PT isn't working for you then there's no point in steering you to another piece of software, because you'll just start over with it. PT LE is perfectly straightforward.I don't know why it's freezing up on you, but troubleshooting is part of recording. Few of us set out to be engineers, but learning how to maintain a computer and getting software working is part of being a musician in the early 21st century. Obviously, PT LE doesn't just freeze up unless there's something wrong. However, if you explain what's going on, I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot PT LE - with the caveat that I don't know much about Windows (even though I have three Windows machines that I use as sample-streaming slaves). What's your set-up?

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
NIck..you are most generous in your offer. I did download the Sony Acid and I find it to be pretty easy to use and I like it..I have figured out how to import what we want to work on, how to listen to songs etc etc.The only issue is I cant figure out how to record or if its even possible with the program. I dont know if I should be hooking up the mic through the mbox as a MIDI device or as an AUDIO device..Audio shows results in the monitor..but the racket I get is not right. MIDI gets me nothing..nada.If I could just get the microphone set up with the Acid program I feel its simple enough that I would be good to go. I find it much easier for me than PT LE.I guess what I need to know is if my condesor mic would work with the Sony acid or is the type of mic itself that is the problem..and if it will work..how do I set it up to work with the program. Once I get that..the rest looks like I can handle it.

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
Well I did manage to get it setup so that I could hear the singing through the headphones connected to the mbox..so it does appear to work at least to that extent. If it works with that I would think it would work with the mic? or no..

Re: What do you use for RECORDING?
Hi Slimcharm!!I use Pro Tools LE, and it took me awhile to figure it out, too.But I've been recording on different mediums since the late 70's.It takes a lot of patience to learn the "art."I'm still a novice on Pro Tools, but it is an "amazing" program if you just start with a few tracks, and them add one at a time.I use it for mastering (stereo), and I STILL can't figure some of this out, so you're not alone! Best regards,Ern
