Need Help:Genre Identity

Post by renips » Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:34 pm

I posted this in the general hangout I would appreciate some opinions. I am in need of hearing what some of you think my style of music fits into as far as genre. I need to hear what a la's some think the songs might be and where they fit in the listing categories on TAXI. Feel free to make any comments you feel that are constructive . I have 4 songs I would like for those who are kind enough to listen to that I am in need of some opinions. You may hear them on my TAXI page at http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... nnerPlease let me knowThanks Mark Spinner

hard to classify. I'd say singer-songwriter. Perhaps alt-rock but the sound is not "current". I'd call the sound "unique". Probably singer songwriter

Hi Mark,Your vocals remind me of 70's Hard Rock. At times you sound like Ozzy.Stuart

Mark, I know how hard it is to identify one's own genre. I have the same problem and wish I could be more helpful, but all I can suggest is singer/songwriter. I enjoyed listening to your songs on my laptop and know I will enjoy them more when I use decent headphones.Bette

It's difficult Mark. I agree with the comments on the 70ies hr voc, and the music might be a bit more pop, so it's definitely in the pop/rock domain somewhere. Excactly where would probably depend on the song, as they are quite different.Perhaps you could try reading the genre descriptions at all music http://www.allmusic.com and try to write your own description like they do. You might be able to frame your stuff better by doing that exercise..

Mark, it would probably fit anywhere in a subgenre of pop or pop rock. It's definitely not a country vocal style or hip hop, one song had a soulful sort of Boz Scaggs vocal to it. Except for the song about beer it seems very light pop "G" rated that the whole family might enjoy!!!
