Re: For the country writers:
Well, yeah that's what filters are for. The number of people who think they've written the next #1 country hit is disproportionately large, compared to those of us who actually have.

Re: For the country writers:
Much shorter story: my former Sweetwater rep (they call 'em sales engineers) is now working in A&R at a Nashville label. They do say it's a relationship business. One more from the "You Never Know" file: My ex guitar teacher used to brag on how he grew up with "Dangerous" Dan Toler, and I always just sorta assumed he was exaggerating a bit, even though he had all the Allman Bros stuff down cold, 'til the day I walked in his house and heard Gregg's unmistakable voice on his answering machine.

Very encouraging posts, everyone!! Love hearing these stories, especially the ones about the older producers, singers, etc........I think music might be the last bastion of good storytellin' and history....and not those ol' fishin' stories either, the real thing. Thanks so much.

JJK,I understand what you're saying completely. I have so many songs that will never go anywhere (and those are some of my favorites). I guess sometime you have to write for sanity. To me, songwriting can be very frustrating. It's basically the war between my creativity and discipline...and if you're going to have any success they have to be able establish peace treaties from time to time I do a lot of co-writing. And I enjoy it a lot. We'll have to do it sometime. Andy
