Re: Is Your Songwriting Routine or Non-Routine Bas
I try to do things during the day that inspire me in some way, and thats usually when the best song ideas come for me. After that its rewrite, rewrite, rewrite, until im satisfied. Next is the part where i force myself to work through the tedious parts of the process, after that is the fun part of adding the sparkle, then back to the final boring parts to finish up. No routines for me, just general trends, and the trends tend to be working to find a balance between inspiration/other responsibilities/and the parts when i just got try to muscle through the practical (boring) parts of the songwriting process.

I go on youtube and read the comments and then toss a few words around and come up with a hook and write the chorus and then everything else comes in place

my best songs come thru dreams....... I usually know the song playing in my dream is mine and try to catch the more parts I can before I wake up! another come from pure inspiration on the keyboards..... and lyrics are generally connected to the melody......that's how I compose.....all the best!

Maybe your inspiration didn't have red hair like mine did....I guess she turned into several songs though...hmmm...you've hit that one outta the park boss!!!I'm the inspiration type. Sometimes close my eyes, pick some stupid non-describeable emo-chord, and start flailing away.

I have a passionate disregard for routine; some days I don't even brush my teeth.

Re: Is Your Songwriting Routine or Non-Routine Bas
I have been working very hard at setting up some kind of routine, and for the last year or two, I've made a point of sitting down with guitar in hand for close to an hour every morning...usually just noodling, trying to hear something that grabs me.When something DOES, I'll then start to play it over and over every morning and attempt to build on it. With me, nearly EVERYTHING starts out as an instrumental, but once I've got a feel for the "mood" of the piece, I can begin to play with lyrical ideas...As long as I have my Earl Grey (with cream and honey) and write my pages every morning, I'm good to go.
