Re: How do you transpose a chorus?
I once helped a women's musical comedy group arrange a song that had to modulate DOWNWARD with each verse, to accomodate the singers' vocal ranges and the order in which each needed to present their part of the song. It had to start in Eb, go to Db, then Bm, then end up in A.Yikes! What a challenge that was! The piece had to have a feel of "lifting" each verse and intensifying, but do so while keys were moving downward, which to me were mutually exclusive requirements. It took some doing, but I finally came up with something that worked (it helped that the song was a spoof of opera styles, called "Blaming Aria":Verse Eb -- (ending on 5 chord Bb7)-- key change transition: Aida's Grand March intro Ab Eb Ab Eb7 AbVerse Db -- (ending on 5 chord Ab7)-- key change transition:Habanera intro Bm Em6/B F7 BmVerse (tango style) Bm -- (ending on rel major 5 chord A7)-- key change transition: Finlandia hymn -- key of A majorLast verse -- key of A. WHEW!It was quite a challenge! I felt modulated out after that!!! ,Suz

Steve,Don't want to shift the focus of this thread, but HAD to comment on this song. It has to be one of the most moving story lines I've heard in a song for a very long time. Felt like I actually knew this little girl. The whole makeup of the song is grandly unique. Thank you for posting it. P.S. I listened hard and wouldn't have noticed the downward chorus shift if you hadn't forwarned me.

Re: How do you transpose a chorus?
Lyrics were written by couchgrouch/good4somethingbum. He asked if I was interested (it was our 4th co-write) and it really should be sung by a woman. But the story line is really pretty great. He's an awesome lyric writer. Thanks Cyndy, for taking the time to listen.
