Madonna pushing boundaries
Here's Madonna's new video. Of course, Madonna's always been about sexuality, so it's nothing new for her. But this new video seems to be making a statement about being older (she's 50) and claiming your sexuality. I have mixed feelings about this....I was brought up in the South where you're supposed to maintain a certain 'ladylike decorum' after a certain age, but then again, if someone feels sexy at age 92, more power to 'em.Still, there's a part of me that misses 'the maturation process' for women...I remember my grandmother, wearing her garden hat, ready to plant tomatoes and not a thought about the men in her life or being sexy to them...as she said, 'she'd passed that stage and she was glad for it.' LOL.So will Madonna start blazing a trail (although it's already been blazed long ago) for older women to wear sexy lingerie like attire complete with black hose to Wal-Mart?Me, I still like my garden hat. You be the judge:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HRBRufepbw

Lovin' the footgear! I think there does need to be a reassessment publicly of what sexuality means. The problem is we're bombarded with images of youth, youth, youth. Makes it hard for folks to embrace the baby boomers' young attitudes. 'Member I was telling you about the article I read about how women over 40 shouldn't wear: short sleeves, capris, close-fitting anything, yada yada? The dang thing was two pages long!I haven't worn shorts all summer. I'm dyin' heah. I have no idea why that affected me so either. Normally I wouldn't let anyone tell me what to wear so clearly I have internal conflicts about aging. Stupid, stupid. Good post!

Whenever I watch a movie or TV show, I really enjoy and appreciate the love stories that feature middle-aged couples. I think it's nice to see mature romances that have to do with being attracted to someone mentally and emotionally as well as physically. I've had my fill of the sizzling hot young things in lust. (OK, there's a time and place for that too! )

Normally I wouldn't let anyone tell me what to wear so clearly I have internal conflicts about aging. Stupid, stupid. Good post! First off, Dave, thanks for the pic....the lady looks like the offspring of Groucho Marx and Madonna. I agree mostly with you here, Squiddy....good points. Yeah, I do remember that article, girl. I really think women should be who they are....if they want to be wear capris and shorts until they're 100, they should do so. I wear shorts all the time...it's hot down South as you said, and if my legs don't look great to folks, well, tough. If they want to be sexy like Madonna, they should. I know how you feel though.....ridiculous articles like that are silly, and they can make women feel apprehensive for wearing clothes that are perfectly appropriate, although I won't be wearing a thong bathing suit anytime soon. (see, we all have internal conflicts about aging, hehe)My biggest concern is that there seems to be a backlash against aging in the reverse. It's pushing baby boomers to stay young and not age like they think their parents did. I think there is a danger in that too....we all know the stories of older people having continuous face lifts and coming out rather bizarre looking. I'm not against face lifts though....if they make people feel good, they should do them. I guess it's all about choices...if you want to be like Madonna, go for it. If you want to age like women in your grandmother's day aged (well, all women didn't all age that way, some wanted to embrace still being sexy), then you should go that way as well.Sometimes in the name of freedom for women (which they surely should have the sexual freedom to feel attractive at any age) we can swing the pendulum too far the other way, and women might get the message that it's not okay to be anything other than a sexy 60 year old. And man, it's fightin' time and gravity after a while. I'll add one more thing....Jessica Tandy, who was 80 at the time she won the Oscar for "Driving Miss Daisy" was said by some of the academy goers to be "the most beautiful woman in the room." She's wasn't sexy in that overt way, but her beauty shone through, so maybe the definition of 'sexy' needs some redefinition too.
