Does this mean it sucks?
Hey, if I get post a song on peer-to-peer and don't get many reviews, is it safe to assume the song sucks? My guess is that people would rather give you good news than bad. I have one song that people I've played it for seem to like (funny how you can tell when they don't) but I've only gotten one review on it here. Just wondering what to make of that?

As for me, I've been busy the last couple of weeks, so not had time to do much more than a quick skim through the latest 100 posts, just to keep up with things.I'll hunt it out too.Don't want you thinking nobody cares. Cheers,Dave.
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Could be a couple reasons for it. One could be they don't think they're qualified to say much about it if it's out of their element/genre.Also, most of us have our 9 to 5 and sitting down listening to someone else's track as we're trying to do our own can be a little time consuming. Especially around the summer months when everyone is trying to take advantage of the nice weather.Another is what Dave said...could be too good. But I won't lie...if I begin to listen to a track and it's not up snuff, it's a toss up whether I'll comment on it or not. Depends on how much time I have, how bad it is, etc.But simply posting in that thread and bumping it will generate some response normally.Jude 2

Thanks all. Lots of responses now. It was just the Woody Allen coming out in me I guess. The neurotic one... not the one who likes young girls!Cam

Just wondering what to make of that?Cameron, only you get to decide if your music sucks. Other people might not like it, but it doesn't mean your song sucks. This is not me patrionizing you or anything like that. Artistic apprecation is all relative, and if you stop writing music like that simply because other people don't like it, you're committing suicide in a way. Hopefully, you started making music because you enjoyed it-not because you wanted fortune and fame. If you did start it for the sake of art, then all of that is irrelevant to your joy of creation. That said, all famous musicians have been turned down numerous times in their lives. If you don't get told "no" lots of times on your journey, you're probably out in the back yard, smoking crack, living in a fantasy world. The road to success is paved in "no's." Then again, there are different types of success. I, myself, feel incredibly successful. I've written or started lots of music that I absolutely love, and if no one ever enjoyed my music, I'd still crank this shit up every day. As far as success as it relates to gettting paid to create art, it's going to be rough no matter how many people will later embrace your music. I don't even plan on submitting music for critiques. Not because I can't handle criticism, but because I just don't care. I will probably submit something now and then, just because it can help to get a little perspective after you've listened to a song a million times and need fresh ears, but don't take critiques as anything more than personal opinions. If you're writing purely to make money, ignore most everything I've said, but hopefully, you're in it for the love of art. I'll get off my soap box now.

ok castles, its not that black and white, art isnt definitive to self, there is an art in bringing enjoyment to people, only writing for your self is vanity, and narcissism, I just took a lot of issue with the above statement, it is absolutely crippling, music is about connection, you can either connect with people, or with yourself. Art is defined as cultural, one man has not, and never will be a culture. What you described is just artistic masturbation, and hey, you see it how you see it, do what ya gotta, I respect that, but I will speak out against it being advocated, as you are free to advocate it in the first place."some write for themselves, some for the world, both get there intended audience."
