Re: The journey or the destination?
Quote:In my experience -- if its all about the destination -- you will never actually be happy. Because even when you get the goal - well, then what? And the journey becomes all about what you don't have yet. So many people miss the fact that they are getting their goals every day, because every day it's all about the next destination. Here's how I think about it. It's the journey. The goals are the context that the journey is in. They often give the journey meaning. Or at least they seem to. Really, what gives the journey meaning are your beliefs -- about yourself, about the world, about your music, about your possibility of success at achieving that destination, about the worthiness of the destination, and so on....That's what creates your experience. So, if you're not enjoying the journey in the moment -- what are you believing? Shift that and you'll shift everything.DebraThat's so true, Debra. There are people who achieve their 'goals,' and they are never happy. They just want MORE. If you can enjoy the journey, you'll probably also enjoy the destination and savor it once it's reached. There are people who can't enjoy either.

"There's one simple truth That's keeping me aliveIt ain't the destinationIt's the drive" No need to feel silly. As you said to me on another thread, Chits, "these sorts of sentiments can never be overstated". Great idea for a thread.Ted

As I grow older, I think I'm turning into an 'ole sourpuss. Could just be the lack of estrogen, hehe....I know, too MUCH information.

It's always the journey for me. Because once you reach your destination...isn't it time for another journey again? Kinda like the act of love, you know...I mean, do you REALLY want to hurry to that finish line??

I would agree that if you don't enjoy the journey, the destination will have little meaning. For me it goes in phases, in the beginning it was all about the journey, then, after I eyed a destination it became perhaps more about it to some degree. After I reached my initial destination of doing music for a living, it became more about the journey again...unless I have a project with a tight deadline, then it's more destination again.I think they are the yin and yang of all creative endeavors. matto

Re: The journey or the destination?
Hmmmm,I have to say BOTH! Depends on the day and time. I would likely answer differently everytime asked. My husband is very goal or project oriented and is very very busy seeing as we are self-employed and he has to keep the business growing. So he would probably say Destination is his main purpose, but he enjoy's trying to get to that destination. Otherwise he would rarely ever get time to do music. My son on the other hand is a song machine. He could literally do several songs a day just because, if he had the time. He's still young and in love with it. Doesn't want to care about the money part of it yet. He leaves that to Mom and Dad. I think the true key is to find balance unless one strictly wants to do music as a hobby.

I think that's what it's all about, trying to enjoy the journey at first with your eyes on a possible goal and then once you attain that goal, being happy with what you've done, but still striving for future goals. Sounds like you've achieved that balance. And you're very successful to boot. And Che, you had some good points about balance too.....I like to write all the time myself, but I'm not concerned sometimes with production of my songs....I need to work on that one.
