I Needed This Forward

Post by bayouandme » Thu Aug 14, 2008 5:20 am

A little over a week ago i was ready to chuck this whole TAXI thing. After many great forwards (over 20 now in the last 8 months or so) I have only had one contract offered. Over a week ago I was not forwarded on several listings that I know should have been forwarded. Outside of TAXI we are getting lots of attention. The irony was we are primarily in the CCM/Gospel category. I am happy for the forward but still perplexed by not getting CCM forwards but getting other category forwards. This is the listing where we had 2 forwards:CONTEMPORARY & TRADITIONAL BLUES SONGS in the range of Johnny Lang, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Cray, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, etc. are wanted by a Global Music Licensing company who is building their catalog to promote toward a variety of worldwide licensing opportunities. Male or female vocals are just fine and excellent performances are vital. While they'd love to find several songs by the same artist, they're open to single tracks as well. This company offers a non-exclusive agreement and you must completely own your Master and Sync rights, in order to submit to this listing. This company is also extensively experienced in creative marketing and promotions, both with events and the production/distribution of a variety of CD projects. Artists/writers who are selected for their catalog will certainly benefit from the aggressive promotion of the material they represent. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Broadcast quality is necessary. We have some concert footage of one of the songs at: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... =36efc6fe- ddd3-4748-ac5d-c12cadce7854

I never really know what to say here... 20 demos went out and landed on someone's desk and you already got one contract offer (so far)? Not all contract offers come right away (2 years after a forward is my personal "longest"). Even at 20:1... your ratio is VERY VERY VERY VERY good. For film score stuff, even at the level of "low budget independent film", I have to send at least 100 demos for each scoring job I land (and not because of the music). Things are just more competitive than we dare to imagine. 20:1 ratio... no sympathy from me. Only hearty congratulations. Dave

Hey Bayouandme,First let me say congrats on the forward and that the song in your footage is great. Can I ask what other song you had forwarded?I had a return on this listing. While I had good scores, 256 said "unfortunately, this is not a blues song". Since my song "In My Lifetime" http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6731243 is sort of blues/rock/R&B, I thought, "well, I guess they wanted 12 bar I IV V tunes".Obviously not, after hearing yours.I'm somewhat perplexed about this and tempted to post my first "huh?" in the screener forum, but I don't think it will accomplish anything.
