I'm glad to see the art hasn't died out. Unless you listen to community radio or the like, you just don't hear much of even Neil or Bruce. I wrote some protest songs in the eary 70's--I need to record "Embargo Rag", it's pretty funny. I've recently found my PO'd voice again, and have written a couple songs of protest. King George ©2007 Edward Null2007 in the land of the free, no other place that I'd rather be But there’s a few things that are really getting’ to me. The Middle East is lookin’ bleak, We’re paying for the havoc that we wreak,The brave come home to Dover every week. CHORUSWe swore we wouldn’t get fooled again,But they lied and spun and lied some more,Threw the Bill of Rights out the White House door,Mission accomplished, King George is holdin’ the reins.New Orleans almost off the map,Heckuva job, Brownie, we’re on the right track. With any luck, the poor folks’ll never come back.Tax cuts for the rich, spit on the poor, The left and right don’t talk any more,They just burn bridges, build walls from ceiling to floor. CHORUS BRIDGECareful what you say and who you say it to.This time Big Brother’s really watchin’ you. CHORUSAnd my view of the global warming crisis... ROLLIN’ UP YOUR SLEEVES Copyright ©2007 Edward NullOur planet’s getting hotter that, no one can deny.Everybody has to wonder why.We spend a lot of money, it’s almost like a game,Tryin to find a place to lay the blame. It could be all our cars and trucks spewin’ out the fumes,It might be power plants burning coal.Or it could be sunspots or maybe cosmic raysOr Mother Nature’s cycle we don’t know. CHORUSOnly thing’s for sure is it’ll never be the same,No matter who’s opinion you believe. All that we can do is rise up to meet the change,There’d be no time for pointing fingers If you were rollin’ up your sleeves. As the oceans rise the rich will move in time,The government’ll see they don’t lose a dime. The poor won’t be so lucky best that I can tell,Get a FEMA trailer and told to go to hell.Farmers will be struggling as weather patterns change,Insects and diseases corn and cows. There’ll be chances to get better or to failDepending on the choices we make now. CHORUS BRIDGEIf we don’t start our cars tomorrow Or burn another lump of coalIt’ll be a hundred years before the air Is like it was just a little while ago.You really think that India and China want to goBack into the Stone Age when they have so much to show. CHORUSThese are both on my Soundclick page. If you listen, keep in mind that these are written and recorded for a monthly contest among Kristal Audio Engine users. I don't have much time to write, record, and mix. King George is pretty rough. I have a Christmas song, also, but I haven't uploaded it yet. Good lyrics, everyone. (and I really like "All That Money")

O.K. --- I'm in!I wrote ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY around the time of the aforementioned Neil Young song "Rocking In The Free World." There are a few dated references, but the 3rd (last) verse is still surprisingly current. (Songwriting tip: Don't use specifics in a protest song! ).I was pretty cynical about politics when I wrote this; now I'm still cynical, but more of an activist. The link to ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY:http://www.box.net/shared/vzkm7n1sg8Hope you enjoy it!Ern

Ah, I thought of another protest song! It's called JETS OF WAR, and the point of view is from someone on the ground who is being bombed. Kind of a different angle from all the rah-rah "shock and awe" stuff we continually heard about over the past few years.http://www.box.net/shared/6w3sycc744I cranked up my '63 Strat on this one! Ern

Quote:When they asked Dopey why, all he said was just because.Isn't that a Bob Dylan lyric? (Dopey - Joey)"When they asked him why it had to be that way,He answered just because."Now, there's a man that could write a protest song.

I seem to have just written one! I remembered this thread and figured better late than never. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... 8485Johnny Put Your Gun DownYonder comes a manIn a suicide vestSaying God’s in the EastAnd the Devil’s in the WestGonna blow away these devilsSmiling in their SUVsHe’s much too young for heavenBut he’s just dying to rest in peaceChange is a-comin’Always did and always doesThe past taught a lessonCan’t remember what it wasWe might lose the futureSo we gotta win the warBut then the Voice of God says “Johnny put your gun downThought I told you not to fight no more”Times are getting toughBut I do what I canI work hard for a livingI’m just a family manSome crazy freak on a missionTrying to send me to HellIs gonna get just what he’s givingHe’s gonna scream in his cellChorusCan’t depend on a miracleFlashing down from aboveIt’s gonna take a lot of patient conversationIt’s gonna take a little loveBetter lay down your weaponBetter reach out your handNo victory, no surrenderJust talk to the manWe all have a problemBut we all deserve to liveI pray we both find an answerI pray we find the strength to forgiveChorus(Copyright 2008 by Mark Kaufman)
