This really strange thing happened today

Post by squids » Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:19 pm

So I'm kinda in a slump right now (I know, I know, keep writing anyway......heard ya! ) and nothin's gettin' me goin'. I don't really wanna sing, don't wanna play, don't wanna write. All y'all know how that is sometimes. I picked up a lil respiratory bug a week or so ago so I'm thinking that's it. Or maybe it's all the broke musicians I'm reading about, lol. I'm in school, got great kids, there's nothin' really wrong, just sorta in this weird no-confidence zone. Not sure. Then today I get this message from someone on myspace. He's a musician from new yawk (he he, backatcha Casey !) and I go to check out his site cuz he's left me this really nice note.....the lil guy's only a teenager and he's puttin' out this ambient action that's pretty nifty!! Anyway, I felt pretty good about that and thought, "well, girl, you did that.....ya know how hard teenagers are to impress, you know how you were at that age." So maybe it's a temporary slump. It's neat to impress someone who's working hard and his brain ain't even all done cookin' yet. Kinda cool.

LOL...I think I know how you feel regarding being in a slump, losing confidence, etc. It happens all the time... But then, like what happened to you today, something happens and re-affirms that you are on a good path, your music is good, etc. I got that note today regarding the Billboard contest, and I was walking on air when a few hours earlier I was doubting it all. Many months back I got a post on my website from someone in Europe that my song, "What a World", changed his life! And I once got an email out of the clear blue from a woman who found me on the internet, liked my music, and wanted copies of two or my songs to listen to while she worked out, biked, etc. These little things can really perk up your (sometimes otherwise dreary) day. It's OK to be in a slump for a short while. Sometimes it's your body's way of telling you to take a break. Just don't stay there too long! And... I think your music kicks serious butt if that helps... Casey

It's nice to hear that a teenager connected with your music. Yep, it's those little kudos that keep us going.I get these feelings you're describing myself , and one of the reasons may be this time of year....January is such a dark and dreary month....I'm waiting for springtime. When the buds bloom, I sort of do too.

Hi Squids..A Couple of thoughts for you...-as Casey mentioned we all go through it, life's a roller coaster...when I get in a slump I just think of it as my batteries need time to recharge... I stop dwelling about it... and before I know it I'm writing again.Plus, don't forget it is winter.... many studies have tied the reduced amount of sunlight to feelings of anxiety, deppression etc. etc. perhaps you need some time to stop and smell the pot roast....kick back and listen to this really great song by a fabulous composer and musician... Razor's Edge...PS. My son ( who I co write with) was in town (with grandbaby in tow), and I played him Razors Edge... he totally dug it.Bob

Hey squids,Yeah, everythang'll be alright. I just got a return last night that just lit a spark under my a**. You know how your eyebrows can get that mean, nasty, archy look when you're mad about somethin'? Well, that was me all day today. But, I finally calmed down and vowed to come back out (as Al Pacino would say in The Devil's Advocate) "with my guns blazin'!!!" That's how determined I am to lick this thing. I know exactly how ya' feel (at least for the most part). I assure you, things'll turnaround in due time. I got a little good news a few hours ago that managed to brighten up the rest of my evening. It's amazing how positive circumstances come about when you least expect it. ibanez468

Ahhh Squid... let's face it, you got the flu, you feel tired & worn out. Give yourself a break! We are supposed to be doing music because we love it, but even when you love something, sometimes you need a break from it. Do some gentle self care and allow yourself to say there is always tomorrow. And yes, there are very talented 16-year-olds but they haven't got your life experience, and we all have our place in this world. You are a valuable human being - just look in your son's eyes if you don't believe it.hugsVikkiQuote:So I'm kinda in a slump right now (I know, I know, keep writing anyway......heard ya! ) and nothin's gettin' me goin'. Hey SquidsSorry you're a little under the weather. I know how you can get in a slump. I found that the pursuit of the muse when she wants to be elusive can be pretty tiring. I found myself that way many times when I really demand a lot more from myself in the quality of the output. The melodies and progressions I toy with don't sound new or fresh enough, and the perfect lyric to the music just runs away.... but keep at it, its like waiting for a fly to land so you can snatch it in mid-air.....ArkJack

Hi....Squids....The best advice I ever got was..."don't think about your life when you're sick or/and tired..."I recommend sitting back and watching an entire season of Buffy or something like that....You're gonna be just great in no time....vicky
