A feeling that doesn't go away!

Post by linziellen » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:53 pm

Hi all,Hope I'm posting this in the appropriate place.I have never taken myself seriously but something inside is telling me I should. I have this inner voice that keeps nagging me to sing and write (not that I mind)! I have dreams like everyone else but this one overpowers me. I put my pen down and feel instantly haunted! Will I always feel like this? Does anyone know where I'm coming from? Lindsey

Yup. Roll with it. Far as I know, it's incurable. Hope so, anyway.

I love teaching but I've barely closed the door on them before I'm running to write down an idea or to work on something I already started. When my work day is done, I sit down and ask myself, 'what do you want to work on right now'. I try to write something every day, and when I get frustrated with production issues (always), I write something to take my mind off it. I don't think you are alone at all. Music is breathing to me... and pretty much everybody else here. And I love to sing, too Mind you, as discussed on another thread... often spouses / family / friends don't "get" why doing music is so important to us...

And I love to sing, too Mind you, as discussed on another thread... often spouses / family / friends don't "get" why doing music is so important to us...This is so true, along with everything else that was said. I'm working on a song as we speak (and have been for the last week)...The way it's made me feel, with this song more than any other, is that I can't sleep, work, eat, or do anything without thinking of the music, lyrics, etc...I quoted this becuase of the line "Music is breathing to me" I so feel the same way...It's like I always say music is my love and my passion, for it can get me through anything.

Ability is the seed...Compulsion, the greenery...And success be the flower...May your compulsion bloom into petals of grandeur... Welcome to the Hotel California... Hehheh!

You'll always feel like this, there's nothing you can do about it, and trying to ignore it is bad for your soul.

I used to play full time and then became disillusioned and pretty much put the music thing away for many, many years. Eventually that little voice got me to come back to music. Mostly I really felt like I would be wasting a talent that many don't have by not even trying again. For me, Taxi was the perfect outlet. It gave me a set of listings to write music for, a real purpose. Some don't like writing to the listings but still, writing from the heart with the idea that you can later find a good listing for the song is just as good.Taxi listings aside, the whole spirit here on the forum is just so great that I can't see a better place to bring the inner voice into fruition.Dave

Ever heard of 'hypergraphia?' (a compulsion to write) Here's an interesting article on it:http://www.boston.com/news/globe/health ... _problems/
