The best writing of any kind comes from those who have an ongoing love affair with language IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Bob Dylan or Neil Young read a lot of books, or that they are big fans of Yeats, Hardy, Stevens, Whitman et al. I am not saying it is necessary either. Some people may be born to speak without much input required.Maybe it is too far afield to start a poetry thread on this forum, too high falluting. But there might be some good value in it if we were able to consistently relate it to our business. Of course in poetry the words do all their own work. But I believe the best songs are comparable to the best poetry in their effects on people.Another thing is, so far it is my belief that the best poetry does not really make very good songs. The lines simply may be too laden with meaning to sit well with music. That shows they really are different arts. Still, there is a heck of a strong relationship between the two. Poetry anyone?
