New Fave Lennon Song

Post by ernstinen » Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:36 pm

I just heard a rather obscure Beatles song on the radio, "Hey Bulldog." This has to be one of Lennon's best, and boy does it ROCK! He continues in his abstract-image vein lyrically that only he could do so well. Too bad it got buried on the marginal "Yellow Submarine" album!Sheep dog standing in the rain Bull grog doing it again Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles What make you think you're something special when you smile Childlike no on understand Jack knife in your sweaty hands Some kind of innocence is measured out in years You don't know what it's like to listen to you fears You can talk to me You can talk to me You can talk to me If you're lonely, you can talk to me Big man walking in the park Wigwam frightened of the dark Some kind of solitude is measured out in you You think you know but you haven't got a clue You can talk to me You can talk to me You can talk to me If you're lonely, you can talk to me Hey Bulldog*******************************After reading these lyrics, do you think it was about his buddy Paul!? That's one of my favourites too. Played it in various bands and it's real fun to play live too. "Woof. What'd you say? I said Woof. Know any more? Owwwwwwooo!"

Wow. Thanks for the flashback. Gotta love Youtube!!! Haven't heard that in forever.I read the lyrics first, trying to remember how the song went, and thought-- man, if somebody posted lyrics like that on here, we would rip 'em to shreds Aub

Owwwwwwooo!"I've heard a cover band play "Hey Bulldog" only ONCE in all my years! Very strange. It's a natural "deep cuts" dance song. Hot piano intro, great guitar lick, LOTS of great chords, melodies galore, fantastic bass part, slammin' backbeat --- It's got it all! --- ATTENTION YOU GUYS WHO ARE GIGGING: PLAY THIS SONG! People will think you're hip, groovy, fab, and know your music history. Ern

Must've seen them 10 times and counting. --- You can say what you want about Wakeman's sense of, er, taste, but that man's got chops to burn! What's with the leisure suit, though? BRING BACK THE SHINY GOLD CAPE! Hey, why didn't Yes ever play "Hey Bulldog" as an encore? Jon Anderson's voice would be perfect for that tune. Ern

THAT would make more sense. Ern

It's definitely bullfrog. I believe I read Lennon later saying he had no idea what the song was about, just bloody words, you know.Yeah, the studio footage looks like the last time they had a lot of close-knit fun in the studio...the footage was used for a video for Lady Madonna, even though they were performing Hey Bulldog. Go figure. They left for India the very next day.Yes, best piano hook ever, and wicked good use of a Rickenbacker bass...Paul was the master of bass lines.
